Hi Melissa,
This is certainly a change in your style. I like it and hope to see more. Best of a luck in the contest. This is certainly a winner.

P.S. On an Iphone the the 5-line breaks are not so evident and read(s) differently as a 6-line poem. >>> . . . )blow smoke, are deceitful, so...( becomes )blow smoke, are / deceitful, so..(. A smaller font should fix it.

Haha. I agree. Action worth a thousand words. Is that right? I know that are many examples that could be true. I can't help to see that our government says one thing about the war in Ukraine and does the other there. I really wish they should end it but they don't want to because of some weapon manufacture's interests.
Well done and good luck.

Smart girl, Melissa. Actions are more trustworthy than words. Harsh message coming from us poets.
Your words ring true though. Always do. In this post, I like how the thoughts are laid out. It's a casual, straightforward approach.
Well said.

Good point to your poem! The picture with the mask fits beautifully with your words. Your syllable count is perfect, and the black against white contrast fits the theme of your poem. Best wishes in the contest.

The words of others can indeed be a misleading mask of lies and deceit behind which people can hide their true identities and intentions, so the word is beware.

"Behind the Words" is a Five Line Contest entry rich in Theme and Imagery.
It also, read well and flowed well with No Grammar Issues.
...
Yes we all need to pay attention to the utterance of our legislators and of the ignorance of those who are misunderstanding.
We need to of course keep an eye behind ourselves and watch our backs because there's so many people out there in this world that are looking for that easy step up!
Thanks for sharing this and good luck with your contest entry.

and yet I pause and say, what one person hears isn't necessarily what the speaker meant, It is as the ear makes as many mistakes as the tongue. :-) .................................................

This should be a good entry in the five line poem contest, Melissa. It is always a good idea to pay more attention to the actions of people rather than what they say.

I do the same. We live in day when words means less, especially when the person's actions and deeds aren't in tandem. Wonderfully penned and illustrated in this form, dear Melissa.
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest.
