Yes I completely agree that man's doing is unsettling! You raise some really important issues that we must grapple with as a society or risk the degradation of our planet. So much destruction caused by our footprint on this earth. I like your free verse style. I pray we find a way to live with nature! You may like my poem I've just posted Little Earth which touches on all these themes but written for children. We need to get this message out there!

The beauty of your write, here, is that although it is in our nature to hyper-analyze the "science" of our planet -- in the end it is awe, a humbling sense of the mysterious enigma of the cosmos, which calls us to bended knee...

A powerful poem with cosmic implications. The earth, let alone individuals seems very small. The free verse is used to give a sense of Nature's power and our feeble response.Perhaps faith in a higher power is the answer!

This poem, Look to the Heavens, gives the readers the lowdown on what we do with our knowledge of the world and the universe. No matter how vast, we try to contain it within our limited parameters of understanding.

Hello, JLR,

I enjoyed your unique poem. The vast universe is mysterious and mind blowing. I feel grateful to live in our planet earth. .Your poem is thought provoking and powerful. I like free verse. I write Japanese poetry that use free verse...never rhymes. The plot is a little disturbing but clear to understand.

We need to take better care of our planet. Mother Nature can be cruel... and will fight back.

Well done

As I look into the vastness of this universe in which we did well, it kind of blows my mind that God could put all of us together in such a way that it continues to unwind. May you have a blessed day and may God bless you as you strive to do your best in the universe in which we live. Patricia

Ah, the irony!
I loved all of this fabulous verse, but this is my favorite part --
"All the while, we throw unimaginable
mounds of dollars made from the ever-shrinking
forests at the unknown, untested, long-term
solutions to save the Earth ..."
Best of luck in the contest.
