I think that at some point, Earth is going to have enough of our abuse and react with a vengeance. Already, the evidence is appearing. I particularly like your last line. Good luck in the contest.

I don't feel the threat that mankind poses to the planet is developed effectively in this piece. It seems as though dramatic language is more important than line of thinking or plot. The second comma in the first line should be after "tell". This is a small detail, but the line doesn't work as it should without this change.
Moving from geology to a critique of humanity's use of the planet seems a non sequitur. And I would've thought that the narrator would offer us some newer advice than the tried-and-true deus ex machina solution that's offered.

Frank, thanks! Since I am not a fatelist down to my core, this simply is a own personal positioning that man has only been on this orb for a couple of millenia - while Earth has gone through remarkable changes and continues to evolve.
    So statiscally thinking:
1.) It's was projected the global population hit 8 billion in 2022.
2.) Researchers estimate that 109 billion people have lived and died over the course of 192,000 years.
3.) And that 7% of all humans who have ever lived are alive today.

So I look to the heavens and wonder what and more precisely who might live beyond... So again thanks Frank!
