What a beautiful but sad story. I am sorry to hear about your loss but rejoice with you in the memory of your once-in-a-lifetime friendship. The story was so touching and full of love. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much Marie. I think Joy's story has an ending that is what she would have wanted and although I will miss her, I can't be sad knowing if she could have chosen it would be her choice.

In the last paragraph, the word (scenes) should be (scene). Other than that, the story is perfect and well-told. As you described, I think a peaceful death would be far better than a lingering illness. Nice writing.

Thank you for the review and comments and for noticing the stray "s". I agree this was the way most of us would perfer to go. I will miss her but I'm glad she doesn't have to make the move she dreaded so badly.

A beautiful, touching story that I am so glad you shared. Indeed, Joy's prayers were answered with a 'yest'

We had a similar situation with an office friend. Joan was 83 and was my mentor and trainer before I opened my own agency. I always told her I would pay her until the day she died. She came to work 2 or 3 days every week. She got her last paycheck on a Friday and was found dead in her favorite chair in front of the TV with snacks all around.

The picture adds so much to your story because it gives us a glimpse into who Joy was, your poem is outstanding. Sudden deaths are difficult for those left here, but what a wonderful way to go for the one graduating to the next level.

I'll share one more story: my husband of 40 years and I were walking around a path, planning our trip to Australia to celebrate our 40th anniversary. He was suddenly tired, sat down and - to make long short - feel dead with a heart attack when he got up to finish the walk. I had a difficult time getting my head around what had happened.

From experience, I can tell you that filling those empty holes in your heart with wonderful memories helps to heal the loss. Once there, they can be taken out as often you like, relived in your mind and again be so thankful the relationship happened. Those who have passed to different level are not gone as long as they live in the hearts of those who love them.

Six stars well deserved on this post. ann

Thank you so much for this beautiful review in which you share to personal experiences from your own life with the suddeness with which death sometimes strikes. I think we'd all like our passing to be so easy. It is true the memories we have are precious treasures that can't be taken away. I truly appreciate all the stay you've given me.

This was a duplicate. I don't know how that happens. People seem to get they from me often, but I'm usually not on the receiving end. FanStory seems to let them both count soe I'm more than pleased to get this one twice.

How very sad Beth and the move or the thought of it was all too much and catching Covid would not have helped. We become fragile as we get older and the simplest task takes us longer and our thoughts are dogged with doubt, I enjoyed your story, thank you for sharing it, albeit sad, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly, It is sad for those of us left behind to miss someone we cared about. For her I have to think she would have liked to leave the world this way without having to deal with move she dreaded. I really appreciate your review and comments.

Hi Beth, I'm so dreadfully sorry for your loss. There's nothing worse than losing someone that is so close to you. It must have been such a shock that morning.
You're right though, she wanted to live out her life where she was, she never had to move. I'm quite sure she was happier to go when and how she did. She never had to deal with the inevitable broken hip, or nursing home with infrequent visits. She was lucky in that. She got what she wanted. It's harder on those of us left behind.
Susan :)

Thank you Susan. I'm missing my daily phone calls from by fiend and I know her daughter is heartbroken but you are right. She was ready to go and I' m sure she would have perferred to go the way she did.
All the way to North Carolina I became more and more convinced something was bad wrong because she didn't answer the phone. I was relieved we didn't find her fallen and having suffered before she died. Thank you so much for a great review.

Heartrending and ultimately uplifting in that she died peacefully at home. Nonetheless, a great loss for you and the family. Fine tribute piece--did you send it to her daughter?

Thank you Elizabeth. I will miss her but I'm glad she didn't have to make the move she dreaded so much. My daughter sent it to her daughter. I will probably send it to her sister.

Very well written. Good work.
That's the way I want to go, for sure - five minutes after my beautiful bride. Or maybe one minute after.
A very nice picture, indeed.
Best wishes.

This was a sad but beautifully-written story about the death of your best friend, though it sounds like she went in the best way possible. I guess you can at least take comfort in that.

Do you think it would have helped you to know when you had your last conversation with her that it would be your last? I think you should only have regrets when you don't get to tell them something you want them to know, that they wouldn't know otherwise. If it's a case of telling her how much you loved her, I'll bet she already knew.

Thank you Jim. We always said "I love you." when we ended a conversation. I know we said it that last time. If I'd known she was worried she might die, I might have come a day earlier and got her to the doctor but that is guessing. I think she went as she would have chosen. I appreciate the review and comments.

It is true, we do not know what the day may bring and we can be surprised and shocked sometimes. I like the poem you wrote, it has much meaning and is true to life. It is so hard when we lose people close to us, I am experiencing that as well, more and more of my friends are passing on. Your story is true to the heart and at least Joy did pass away in her own home.
