This is a really interesting article. I wonder how many of us know someone who was murdered? My great uncle and cousin were almost certainly murdered. They are hard to forget, especially the abused wives as you noted. Your writing is good and I saw only 2 mistakes. In paragraph 6 you have an incomplete sentence and in many of your paragraphs you fail to have one sentence follow the next. Paragraphs are like trains. Each sentence tags along behind the next with just one space between them.

Thank you Carol for your comments. The incomplete sentence should have had a semi-colon. I corrected.
I disagree with how I separated my sentences. Most are separated for impact. but I appreciate your thoughts

Did you live in a large city when these incidents happened? Sounds like you had several who died close together. I hope they were solved so people could move on and there was closure. Sad when you know the person(s), too, and you have to write their story.

Thank you Rosemary for your review. Yes, Deacon and Cathy both lived in the city, while the office manager lived in the suburb.

This is a sad review of the murders of people with whom you are familiar. What makes them worse is that there was never any justice for them. I can see how their deaths would haunt you.

I enjoyed reading your story. I like crime and drama stories.

These victims still live in your mind, thank you for sharing their story. It's very sad, and unfortunately, it happens a lot in our country.

I worked with victims of abuse, it's very hard to break the cycle. Like Cathy didn't have anybody else.

It moved along nicely and the plot was easy to understand and follow. Good character development.

Well done, my friend.

This is a horrifying story. I can't imagine knowing of someone personally and they end up murdered. I'm so sorry Cathy was never found.

That's a very nice prom picture of Rose and Deacon. I had to look twice because my prom gown was white and looked exactly like the dress Rose is wearing. I also wore similar shoes.

This essay left me with a feeling of 'unease'. Maybe it is the unsolved murders; maybe it is the ability for some people to close the door on those who are gone regardless of how they went; maybe it is the haunting remembering of these three horrible events. I do know it is the presentation that got my attention. Well done. ann

Mary, this site is, of course about writing. You have written a most compelling story. As I read it, I thought it was almost like coming upon a bad car wreck and not waiting to look. But I couldn't take my eyes off the page. Excellent work. Terry.

This essay, They Were Murdered, is a chilling remembrance of people you knew, who were victims of murder. What a burden to bear, that people you knew were never avenged for what they suffered.
