Independence and determination can get you a long way in life, as I can relate, but it can also distance friends and families for innately, most of us desire to be wanted or needed. A great story and an enjoyable read.

Thank you for your review, and for your thoughts. I don't think independence and determination need to alienate people if they know they are loved and respected and that they will be called on if needed. Sometimes people intervene too quickly. Sometimes children and adults give up too quickly. As this child's grandmother I was ready and willing to help, and she knew that, but her perseverance to me was admirable. One needs the wisdom of Solomon to know if and when and how to help!

Perseverance in the face of failure will do her well in life. Sometimes adults need to be reminded of life's lessons by children. Thank you for sharing your story.

This story, Keep on Trying, shows us an individual with what we like to encourage in everyone -- grit. That's what separates those who enter the race and those who complete it.

Thank you Bill. Yes, you are right. Sometimes such determination is perceived as stubbornness, and it is squashed. Parents and grandparents need to be encouraging their kids to develop such perseverance - for good goals.

Hi Wendy,
My granddaughter, Alyssa, loves to do the very same thing... swing on the monkey bars. I think these girls will excel in their lives. They'll make it. They won't give up. It's so good to know that troopers like these girls are the next generation to succeed, to invent, to conquer the world. They are like "the Brain"... do you know him? Have you ever seen the cartoon, "Pinky and the Brain"? I used to love watching it. Pinky would ask, "What are we going to do today, Brain?" And the Brain would say, "Why, we're going to conquer the world, Pinky!"

When my granddaughter was baptised at her request to me, it was spontaneous on her part. She was only ten, but a very neat and slightly vain child, I asked if she was sure, that she'd have to go in the water in her beautiful new dress, she said 'yes', I knew from her dancing efforts she was a perfectionist with a high work ethic, when she came out the water the pastor declared he thought her a warrior princess, he didn't know her propensity for perfection, he was right, she's risen to the top of the ranks as a champion dancer, she's only small, but strong and athletic, she rises early and she reads and prays early each morning. She was crying coming out of the water, I know she had a special encounter. She sticks at it till she gets it right, that little girl you saw is special. Beautifully written, Wendy, blessings Roy

This is quite a determined and stoic little girl. Her little hands must have been sore by the twenty-ninth time she tried. I predict that she will go far in life.

Hello Wendy,
What a great story to share. Sometimes you have to be stubborn or determined, to achieve a difficult task. The fact that she's so young and has chosen this path says a lot about her. Anything worth having is worth working for. I suspect she will have a good deal of success in her life. Have a blessed day gal.

Thank you very much Tom for a lovely review. The danger is that determination and perseverance can be mistaken for stubbornness. Parents need much wisdom in discerning it as a strength to be harnessed in good ways.

Thank you for sharing this story, Wendy. Children can teach us so much. How often do we give up after a few attempts at something difficult? this is a great lesson for us all.

Thank you very much, Anne. You are right. I am sure I would have given up earlier, and most children would have just kept asking to be lifted up high so they could reach. Lovely review.

She sounds like the human version of Robert the Bruce's famous spider. Clearly a most determined child . With that level of determination and perseverance she should go far.
