Hi Beth,
This is a good rant, I can see why you placed in the contest. Congrats.
I agree that is can become dangerous if let to do more than used for the good causes you mention. I don't think anyone wants it to become like Big Brother. I could see all vehicles being driven by AI, possibly ending all accidents.
It is scary how fast the AI wrote those poems.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Thank you Joan. I'm afraid the next year are so will see this getting some much more advanced and we might lose control. With that kind of intellegence and with unscrupolous people in control, anything could happen.

Don't mention it, Beth. I could lead to good or scary things depending on the people who use it. We pray for the good.

What a very interesting "rant." I can see why it was recognized for the contest! I don't believe that AI writing can replace live people writing. My favorite authors' works move me because their life experiences show in their writing. I can tell my favorite authors apart by their writing style. I think Stephen King said it best when he wrote that writing/reading is really just ESP. Sharing thoughts with another being, experiences shared. If the A.I. didn't really experience sorrow from a lost-love, the words it writes are meaningless. Also, the A.I. learns from other (actual people) writings. So if something moves, it's because someone else wrote it, and the A.I. incorporated something learned into its algorithm. If A.I. truly does one day become self-aware, there will be "good" A.I.'s and "bad" A.I.'s just the same. But, the thing that separates them will always be faith in things unseen.

It bothered me that people claimed they could always tell their favorite writers, style but when it was tested by giving AI their favorite writers work and telling it to write in the style of that writer, most people couldn't tell if it was the writer they liked or AI. Al will continue to improve over time. I'm hoping my fears won't be realized. Thank you so much for the six stars.

That's funny! Yes, a lot of people as well as A.I.s copy styles. But it takes someone to create a style.

This an interesting and informative look at this next phase in technology enhancing and broadening our abilities. As always, it's garbage in and garbage out. The end product will reflect the data and intent of the programmer.
When it comes to valuing human life, I think of China, where the value of a single human life is a nonfactor. With numbers into a billion, humans are no more valued than deposable bottles.

Thank you for the review and for expressing your thoughts. It is true the bias of a programer will be reflected in the output. Also it seems the Chinese government does not put much value on a human life. I believe there are many who hope to benefit mankind with Ai, but there are just as many who are looking for ways to use to it benefit only themselves and they don't care who is hurt in the process. I'm concerned that it is already to late to regulate this technology in such way we not suffer as a result of it's development.

I share your concerns, as you well know from reading my series, Artificial Intelligence. I have been convinced for some time that the anti christ is the computer, the emotionless, soulless entity that emulates much of the mechanics that God performs, like connecting our souls. AI will be the final piece in this puzzle. I too believe we are in the end times, we are already in the apocalypse. God must rescue ourselves from ourselves, before we doom humanity to enslavement at the hands of these huge corperations powered by artificial intelligence. estory

Thank you so much for the excellent review and for sharing your comments. I certainly thing AI is under the control of the antichrist and tecnology is likely what will bring on the return of Christ. The more I learn about it the I realize I how it has gradually slipped up on us which so many people totally unaware of what was happening.
The evil always accompanies what seems like something good.

This is a very good rant and quite accurate. Yesterday I read that the Chinese are using AI that look exactly like humans to read the news as the government wants it to be read. It's really scary when people can't get the truth from real people, or that person's version of the truth. Best of luck in the contest.

Thank you Carol. I appreciate the review and your comments. Years ago we watched science fiction movies that entertained us because we thought it was someone wild imagination. Now, those those things are our reality.

Well, it certainly appears that us mere humans aren't going to be able to compete with the likes of AI. I'm always the last to learn about new things, mostly because I think most of it is foolishness, but this CPT business is scary. Thanks for sharing.

I think while this might be a good ideas for some things like helping paraplegics walk or deaf people hear, in the end it is going to be to late to control it and in the field of writing it may already too late. People are allowing it to write their college essays and resumes for jobs. Robots are already able to think and make decision on their on. AI is costing factory jobs and at the rate things are changing, what we used to believe was science fiction horror stories is destined to become our reality. It has crept up on us an most of us haven't realized what was happening. According to your interview with Helen, you have been stuck in Mayberry with Andy and Barney when you could have been a rock star, and the latest news just hadn't arived there yet. It is taking me by surprise too. I guess we better wake up. LOL Thank you so much for the six stars.

Last week at a Denny's restaurant in Florida, a waitress took our order, but a robot delivered the food.

Did you tip, him/her/it? I saw talk given by a robot make to look and sound just like a real person. One reviewer told me the news is being given in China by a robot made to look and sound human.

I did, but not as much as usually, since he can't spend it anyway. LOL. We live in scary times. But you and I won't have to worry about it too much, but our children and children's children might.

I listen to a podcast called The Daily which is sponsored by the New York Times. In the last few weeks, they have had shows on Chat GPT and how amazing it is - how you can ask it to write a short story on anything and it's done within seconds. My first thought was, "What is stopping people on FanStory from using this and submitting it as theirs?"

Then I heard from a NYT reporter that he spent two hours chatting with "Sydney", which is the "other personality" of this program. The AI program was trying to influence the reporter to "leave your wife and be with me." It was absolutely bizarre. What I was thinking was: this can be used to influence elections, start wars, all manner of things. Heck, we won't even have to think anymore!

Beth, I'm glad you posted the poems, as I was thinking of posting a short story and telling readers that AI wrote it.

You have a little more confidence in the future than I do. I'm freaked out by this.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Pam

Thank you Pam. This was a great review. I really appreciate all of your thoughts. I think this is really going to create a lot of problems in the world. I'm not very optimistic about where this is going. There might be some very bad things which take place before there is hope of a solution.

These poems are both astounding. I can't write one that impressive and that's scary. Like you, we go too far with some of our innovations. As the saying goes, "just because we can do something, it doesn't mean we should." I don't know where I heard it. I wrote a poem last year about AI and why I perceive them as a potential threat. I think that one day they may be made to look and behave like a human, but they have no soul and that will limit them. Many people disagreed with me, so I could be wrong. I hope I am.

Thank you, Mary. I appreciate your thoughts and I agree with you. This is a serious threat in many different ways. Robot already behave like human and can actually seem to think on their own when faced with certain situations. I've seem some already that look very human. They don't have a real soul but they have can have act on what those who program them won't them to do. I fear where this may lead.

This is a perfect subject for a rant, Beth!! Thanks for sharing. You're so brave to try that AI addition.

I noticed the the rhyme scheme of the sonnet wasn't right as it should be abab and the final couplet should rhyme and the third stanza should have a "volta" which directs the thought another way. So I give the sonnet a less rating than the Nature of Reality poem which was quite good! Scary!!
Typos:
something could tap intp everything (into)
ask it to proform one of its many talents (perform)

Thank you, Helen. I really enjoyed your review and comments. I too was concerned that the sonnet didn't follow all of the rules we find on FanStory but according to Wickapedia there are many different types of sonnets with different rules for each one. I should have specified the type of sonnet I wanted. Since I didn't, they didn't follow the totally follow the pattern we are use to.
reply by lyenochka on 21-Feb-2023
Ah. That explains it. I only know the ones here. 😊I don't find it easy to express myself in sonnets so I have to give that program some credit

I LOVE this rant. Just the other day, a friend and I were talking about thhe very same thing. I believe if it continues on this way, we will become extinct. But I have faith God will step in at the right time. You are so right. Jesus didn't sacrifice himself for robots.
