I can tell you, on one of our visits to New York, our son in law took us on a trip to Canada, after enjoying the countryside, and Montreal, Ottawa and Quebec, we headed back to NY, my SIL using his trusty GPS. I saw a massive sign, "to New York, we headed in a different direction, my SIL informed us the GPS was directing after the GPS told us we were in the middle of a field, we headed back for the sign, heh heh, we'd driven about 50 miles out of our way. Beautifully written Mary. Blessings Roy
Typo : My hands gripped the (stirring) wheel. Steering?

GPS is not always to be trusted, especially in rural areas or areas under new construction. I relate. I've been taken off course several times only to have to stop and ask a person for directions. Ugh!
I'm glad you made it to both of your destinations safely, even through all the frustration.
Excellent rant.

Your contest entry was a true rant, Mary. I enjoyed reading
it and understood why I don't use GPS or any other systems.
I liked the words you added after the initials GPS. Your entry
was well organized with great details. I'm thrilled you made it
home safely.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

This was a classic GPS story and one I want to show my wife and son. One has a dependency on his so much he doesn't even attempt to go anywhere without it. My wife slavishly listens to ours even when we know it's wrong.

Thank you Bill, I appreciate your review and am honored by the six star rating. You would think I would learn my lesson, last time, I kept circling a building 3 times before I realized that the GPS was leading me only to a sign that read the end of Route 2 instead of the beginning.
    Thank you again.

Your rant gave me a good laugh this morning! All of my friends have GPS and I'm a lone hold-out. I reason that I don't drive that far and if I don't already know how to get there, I don't need to go! Seriously, I do use Google maps to locate places for which I may not know the directions. I've heard so many horror stories about GPS that I'd just rather rely on a map.

Good morning, Mary!
Oh! I feel your pain, and you have most definitely shared a relatable "pain" and deserving rant about those #!#!#!# gps instruments.
I cannot begin to share with you how many times I/we've been led down the "scenic" route that either made us late for an event or convinced us we were going to end up somewhere close to the Texas Chainsaw murders!
So frustrating!
Well, I am glad you are home now and safe!
One small nit:
The GPS on Google Maps showed the 114-mile trip to the funeral parlor from my town in Massachusetts to New London, which (----) would take slightly over two hours.

Thank you for sharing!

I guess the moral of the story is that if you're going to use your GPS be sure you have your sound on on your phone to listen. I was amused at your story. It was a delightful delightful read. Patricia.

Well Mary, quite an adventure with the GPS system, and the added
personal frustrations inevitably triggered some very expressive
language outbursts, which being only human, many of us are
familiar with no doubt! I am glad you survived the trip. All factors
and frantics, panics etc. considered, and still have the bemusing
sense of humor, in your unique style and presentation, to amuse
and remind us that those GPS marvels of technology are hell to
deal with and a driver's pain in the ass at most crucial times.
Enjoyed the read and thank you for sharing it. Makes me feel
normal and likely my similar reactions and fits with GPS...I
don't like them and prefer not to use them, let someone else drive!
Best always, Ronni

Thank you, Ronni for taking the time to read about my adventures. My brother is having a memorial service in the Spring for her and thank goodness it is only in Cambridge and is which normally is a half-hour drive but 2 hours by GPS.
    Best wishes,

You are a brave woman and I admire your courage and thank God that you were safe in that ordeal to and from the funeral. Your rant was refreshing because it was a complete story and you showed us the problems with these new gadgets. Wayz is a software that was created in Israel. The good thing I can say about your experience is - at least, you weren't driving in Israel where lanes are well - suggestions!
I hope this does well in the contest!!

    If I were driving, I'm sure we'd be in Canada...or Florida. 😂
