Nicely written and a joy to read. I heard, as a child, that male cats killed their young and a similar thing about male rabbits. I never checked it out and I am glad you set me straight! thanks. ann

    Hi Ann,
Thank you for the gracious comments. I am happy you enjoyed this story.
Like you, I thought male cats killed kittens. Unfortunately, some male cats do kill kittens, but there are exceptions. If the kittens are their own, they will take care of them and I've heard from a few readers that they had a special male cat that took care of kittens that were not their own. Who knew?

I liked reading this, because we have two cats in the house. I thought it was very educational. My favorite sentence was: Mice used to sit up and wave at me when I entered the barn.
My favorite paragraph was: What I was witnessing was Daddy Cat inviting the kittens to join him on his nightly rounds. My attitude completely changed. The neighbors had praised this male cat for hunting the gophers in their yard. Now he was passing on those skills.
The reference to 'D.C.' totally made me think of Disney's "That Darn Cat." Nice job.

LOL. I haven't thought about "That Darn Cat" in years. I may have to see if I can find a copy and watch it again.

D C is obviously passionate about his fatherhood duties to come back to show his littlies how to hunt. Works out well for everyone it seems. Love the expression on this cat's face. Enjoyed the read, cheers.

This is a good, well-written story. I had the same belief about male cats as you until my barn cat had kittens and I went out to check on them. Her brother was in the nest cleaning the kittens and keeping them warm. She came back 2 days later looking like she was dying, but he cleaned her up and she was ok. They did this two or three times while they were on the farm.

    Hi Carol Hillebrenner,
Thank you for the encouraging comments about the writing. Thank you, too, for sharing your story about the brother and sister cats you had on the farm. It is amazing what animals can do. We know so little about them in reality.

I had two feral cats living in our house, they were the most loving cats I've ever had, brother and sister. Both gone to cat heaven now, and I hope they are waiting for us. I smiled when I read your thoughts on the male cat. Believe it or not, cats are loving to each other, very much so. I've actually found that domesticated cats are NOT so, they guard their home and owners jealously. I'm so glad you saw what you did that time. I really enjoyed your story, that cat is gorgeous. Well done! :)) Sandra xx

This is a delightful story about daddy cat. Did you teach you a lesson as a post and I also understand that daddy cats do help in raising the lost found. I enjoyed the story very much. Patricia

If only human men would be as kind to take an interest in raising children, especially in the inner cities. Many men simply plant their DNA and move along to greener pastures. Whatever happens is fine with them, but not for our country.

Well, I guess, I've learned a few things about male cats, and since I didn't really know much of anything before, I know quite a bit now. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Daddy Cat is a sweet and loving father. I once had a stray male cat visit my porch, and when I put food out, he would run around the corner, calling to another cat, as it turned out. It was a tiny kitten, and he was looking out for it.

    Hi damommy,
What a sweet story. He sounds like a caring cat. Maybe he was the father or mabe he just adopted the kitten. Either way, lucky kitten to find someone to care.
Thank you for the review and for sharing your story.

I enjoyed your story. I witnessed a daddy cat at my daughter's house. She had male and female sphynx cats (hairless) The mother gave birth to nine kittens, and both parents were equally concerned over the well-being of those kittens. Anyone entering the room where they were kept had best not make any sudden moves or the male cat would defend those babies by attracting any foreseeable threat.
