A fine and jolly poem for the Irish Themed contest, and it sounds as though you know Ireland well as you took us on your journey. So you found the leprechaun - well done!! Best wishes for your entry.

Hi Wendy, having been born in Ireland, but as a child moved to America, I have found that the land, the lore and leprechaun are buried in my DNA. I love all things Irish ❤️ Thanks for your kind words and enjoy your upcoming weekend.

Yes, there is that strange "inner knowledge" about our past which is inherant - buried within the DNA. Lovely expresssion!

great poem. I'll drink to that. loved it. I am part Irish too. like the last stanzas the best

As luck would have it, in such a story as this one, or two
a Shepard I met said, " you'll find your quest in Tullamore."
He continued. "At the pub ask the barkeep for Tullamore Dew."
So, I strode to the pub and had a pint, and said, "draw more!".
Being bold, I then had a Dew, then, had another glass of brew.
Suddenly, I saw the Leprechaun! With brass buckles on his shoes.

I daresay that enough sips of Tullamore D.E.W.s and you might see not only a Leprechaun, you no doubt will likely see the pot of gold and the end of a rainbow. I love the poem. Your descriptive words gave me a sense of actually viewing the scene you described.

This is a lovely poem with excellent rhyme and meter, and beautiful imagery. Of all the places I've traveled to in my time, Ireland is my favorite. I have Irish ancestry, but not much history was passed down to us. I have memory of my aunt telling me that our ancestors came from Scariff but I couldn't find anything about it because I was spelling it incorrectly. Thank you for that wonderful, if inadvertent gift. Good luck in the contest.

As a former heavy drinker, I've never actually tasted Tullamore DEW. Nor have I send a leprechaun, nor the pot of gold. (But I can dream) and excellent post, it takes some doing to create a good poem like this, it's most imaginative, good luck, well done, blessings Roy

Roy, I appreciate your input and typo recognition. I too used to sip far too much, and also never had the D.E.W ?. But all that is not missed one iota 🙏

It sounds like you know Ireland well and especially this area, as talk about Tullamore in your poem. Your words are passionate and alive with great descriptions here. Although your have end rhymes, because there is no metre detected here, your poem sounds more like a free-write or prose to me. Your poem is ideal for the contest as your words speak with personal experience of Ireland here and I loved the humour too, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

Thanks Dolly, land where I was born is in my DNA, but left for the US as a child and only returned a handful of times.
