This is a story that shows the good heart of those willing to part with a few coins to help those in need - in this case a veteran and his daughter. It is good to see an effort being made to brighten someone's day in return for a handout to get more - instead of just expecting a check that probably wouldn't made ends meet. A feel good story. Thank you for sharing and best of luck in the competition.

Beautiful imagery.
I especially liked the picture you painted of the little girl in the tattered dress. Those were hard times but she was happy to dance.

After the first world war many people were locked in poverty and many widows who had lost their husbands were left penniless, it was a tragic situation and your sensitive write here is a story your Grandfather told you, I wish you luck with the contest, love Dolly x
