This is a wonderful entry into the Celebrate Women's History Month contest. The text needs to be larger for easier reading. That's especially important with long pieces of prose. I like all the information you shared about Mary Harris "Mother" Jones. I remember reading some about her contribution to organizing United Mine Workers. I love learning and by you sharing new information about her contribution to the American labor movement/unions and altering child labor practices I learned things I didn't know about her. Your writing is presented with clarity. Your visual fits perfectly. Good luck in the contest.

A fine tribute to this lady who fought for the rights of workers, and more importantly the rights of poor defenceless children who worked in factories and companies who did not care for their safety but only about profit. A fine post as I learned about this courageous lady, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

This woman fought for the rights of the coal miners, for the labors that worked in factories and many other commercial jobs. It is a wonder that she lived to be a elderly lady and still fought for the workers until her death.

This is a very interesting story. I've read some articles from the Mother Jones magizine and I wonder how the magizine came to have that name and now thanks to you, I know all about Mother Jones who was the inspiration for the magazine. She was quiet an activist who made a big difference.

Yes, she was. She had great courage. Some say, the song "She'll Be Comin Round the Mountain" was about her arriving in mining camps.
Thanks for the read and the review.

My father was a coal miner, so I've certainly heard of Mother Jones. What an extraordinary woman! It is heart wrenching to be reminded of just how ruthless people can be in their pursuit of profit. It is sad that there has to be laws to insure justice, safety and fairness.

Could not agree with you more. Now we have bankers risking other peoples money for their own profit. Deregulation is running the country. Thanks for your read and review. By the way, of six reviews I have received, you are the only one who knew of Mother Jones.

You are welcome. Interesting, I would have thought she would be better known than that.

I had never heard of Mary Harris Jones before I read this. She sounds like a remarkable woman. It must have required considerable courage to stand up to the Establishment of the day.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Another remarkable woman who I have never heard of. Sounds like a spitfire. She was a gifted and impassioned speaker. It's too bad that we rarely heard or learned about the speeches of women in school. At least I didn't.
As for the quote by the New England mill owner, I'm not sure the attitude towards workers has changed much.
Thank you so much for sharing the amazing life and work of Mother Jones!
Your piece is well-written and inspiring. Best wishes in the contest!

A faultlessly written article which tells of the tireless struggle of a wonderful woman. I had no idea until I read this that children were exploited just as cynically in the US as they were in Britain at that time.
Well done. Julie Lau

Wow. Another great post for the Women's History Month challenge.

She was a tenacious figure in the labor unionization movement. We should all be thankful for her steadfastness.

I loved her quote from the witness stand about her taking the oath.

Excellent contest entry.
John

My God, what a remarkable woman. You tell her story very forcefully and eloquently. She did so much good and her courage was insurmountable. Very well told and inspiring biography.
