    Hi Pam,
I am happy you enjoyed this poem and appreciate the kind comments about the picture it creates about the night and the calm feeling it makes. I love to take a walk after dark and hear and see all the things we don't see during the day.
    Thank you for the congratulations.

Such a lovely poem. I enjoyed your take on finding comfort in the dark as often it's about the fear of the dark. Certainly, by the end of reading your poem, one should feel that peace in the darkness. I especially enjoyed your third stanza, 'feel a cloak of twilight ease the burdens of the day.' Congratulations on your win!

    Hi Dolly,
Thank you for the congratulations. I thought, darkness does not always have to be a bad thing, so I took a different approach. I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

I am pleased for you that your beautifully expressed poem won the contest. I connected with the ideas and imagery within it... the life within darkness, the swaying shadows and the easing of burdens are all things I too enjoy about darkness. Charmed, then dreaming.

The form and shape of the poem are expertly maintained. The qualities and mystery of darkness are celebrated which is contrary to what the reader expects are therefore twice as welcome!

I find the darkness glorious
for stars only shine at night
Pure moonbeams bathe hopeful lovers
In their romantic light

ideas... cut more insignificant words to add stronger words

Thank you for dropping by. I'll look at it. Your suggestion is appreciated. It does not fit the meter so I'll tinker with it.

We are all here to learn. Thank you for stopping by. Maybe I should consider changing it. Romantic to me doesn't always mean lovers and isn't really what I was going for. Again. Thank you.

This is a beautiful rhyming poem with good meter and lovely imagery. I like it a lot but the use of "I" in the first line of the second verse throws me off. Maybe "rejoice" to hear nocturnal sounds... Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the kind comments and the suggestions for improvement. I took a look at the line in question. I wanted to keep it first person, but did make a change to remove the word "I" and I think it is better. I appreciate your help and the good luck wishes.

This is a good entry into the Darkness Poetry contest. The text is a great size. The message is stated with clarity and is easily understood. Your rhyme scheme is done well. You made darkness a thing of beauty. That's a positive, uplifting slant that most did not do. Expand your poem box a bit. Drop the first line down a space and go the last word in your poem and hit enter once. This should open up your poem box. Great spacing adds to the presentation. The visual fits well. Good luck in the contest.

This is really great! I love the positivity of darkness as I feel the same way. I think the strongest part of the poem is in the last two stanzas. I felt the most emotion here. The line "I feel a cloak of twilight ease the burdens of the day" is my favorite of the whole poem. I have a love of twilight and find a peace there that is difficult to duplicate. This is truly where the soul goes to rest from the stresses of life.

I also really love the last stanza. Likening the darkness to a person that wraps you up in it's arms where you are safe to sleep and dream is beautiful. Thank you for your work.

I really enjoyed the fact that you made light of the darkness, (pardon the pun). There is enough sadness in the world. Your poem made me think of fireflies that light up the darkness. Best of luck. A well composed, upbeat poem.
