That poor old caddie was based on a real caddie I knew when I was a caddie back in my teens. The real E.J. was also an alcoholic like the E.J. in the story, and was not a very good caddie, but he was a nice guy. Though I didn't know him very well, I thought about him often through the years and decided to invent a story about him--how he got to that place in his life and what he might really be like. Some Call It Luck was the result that I recently posted in its entirety on FanStory.

Poor T.J. In this book, he is portrayed as more of a problem drinker than in the other. I still maintain (and I'm sorry to say this), that too many important details hinge on the fact that T.J. is drunk and Eddie is counting on his own ability to maneuver T.J., into doing precisely what he wants. Entirely too much luck, in my estimation, is involved. Descriptively, however, your writing excels. Before you send this out, though, I would tighten up those problem areas.

So I can't convince you that E.J.'s being drunk only affected the outcome of 2 holes, whereas the combination of Eddie and Kenny on one ball affected 6 of the other 7 holes. It's a multi-faceted plan, and there's still one more trick up Eddie's sleeve before it's over.
Whether or not I convince you, there's a lot more to the story that will probably be more interesting to you after this match is over in the next chapter, and thanks for the compliment on the writing, Jay. It means a lot.

I think you'll enjoy the 18th hole, Tom. The last chapter was a bit of a lull before the storm.
