What an impressive poem. It's the story of a hero, a man who has seen war and survived in many different theatres of war. I love how you tell the Sergeant Major's lifestory and tell it through his eyes. A really outstanding read.

You tell an interesting story. So many in the armed forces give more than I can even comprehend. I am suspecting your verse is about someone you knew from the statement in the description line.
I think you could make an excellent story or essay out of this, fleshing out those points you have highlighted in the poem.

You visited me so I feel it is polite to visit you. Also, I notice you are fairly new. Welcome. I admit, I am doing what most members do and giving you five stars. It seems to be the norm. I'm not sure if it's because people don't want to give ideas for improvement or if they are just being kind and don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Do take all six stars as a compliment because we only get six a week and have to choose the best.

You mentioned MS. Were you saying that you are afflicted with the disease of does it stand for something else. I live in a world were we use a lot of abbreviations and I can think of several other things it could stand for.
If it is the disease, I am sorry to hear you have it. I had two neighbors that suffered with it. They were so brave. I can image you are too.

This was a powerful poem, Kit, about a very dedicated soldier who gave so much of himself defending his country. He sounds like a very brave individual who ended up making the ultimate sacrifice after the war was over for him. Let's hope that he finds peace when his body is whole again and he's among his men. Beautifully written.

True words spoken. Such sorrow how our young men and women suffer during these times. You wrote many truths. Not only do you risk losing limbs, but also friends and pieces of your mentality. You never return home the same until the final end.

We worked with hundreds and thousands of veterans all over the country but the men who served as my husband did in SF and MACVSOG were always closest.

A fine tribute to someone you admired who served in this war and was severely injured and subsequently died. A sad tale of war told here Kit, the truth of it hits home, love Dolly x

I still remember him and our other Top who we were close to, and feel so privileged,
