This is an excellent rant. I also question why it was so difficult and why the rules seem to make it as hard as possible for someone who needs help to get it.
The passion come through and you have me fuming. Kay and her aged mother did not need this extra emotional and physical stress on top of what they already have.
Excellent post. Thank you for sharing.

Exactly right. I agree - I think they just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day. Thank you very much for reviewing.

A well-written essay about how uncompassionate and insensitive the government can be. I mean, couldn't the employee walk to the car and take a photo of her?

Thank you Shari for reviewing. No, for these photos one must stand in a certain spot and face a wall camera on the other side of the counter, and look at a certain spot on the wall.
Exasperating situation for Kay and her mother.

More than a rant!!! It's a wrong that needs righted.Well written. Good work to make readers feel the angst.
In the U.S handicap permits are passed out like candy on Halloween. Pay a Dr. and get a permit for being tired, a hang nail, or a sprained gizzard.
Best wishes.

Thanks so much Wayne. I know checks are needed to avoid the sort of rorts you mentioned but - I think they just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day.

Wendy, it is hard to believe that this could happen. I am glad she finally got her permit, but I am sure that all the frustration she endured only made her situation worse. I can understand how this has made you upset.

Thank you Anne. I know that checks are needed to prevent people from rorting the system but ....! I think people just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day.

Our systems are equally as broken for people like Kay and for me. Nothing is easy. Paperwork has to be verified and diagnosis has to come from a government approved doctor in my case to collect disability benefits for my blindness. Good heavens!

I-hope things work out quickly for Kay and her mom. Praying for her and the situation. Thank you for sharing, sweet Wendy.

Thank you Sally. Your review comes from a place of understanding. I know they need to have checks in p,lace so people don't rort the system - but the very ill do suffer extra frustration and distress as a consequence of the inflexibility of the system.

I'm afraid that's when law without grace is in operation, one day these folk will experience what common folk do. I agree with you, the fines for parking in these spots is punitive, but so many disabled parks are absolutely empty even in bust times, well done Wendy, sheesh. Blessings Roy

That?s fine if they are empty. They are there for those who need them, and no one else knows the moment they will be needed, or how many will be needed. Thank you for reviewing. Always appreciated.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I have no clue why bureaucracy can't think except what is exactly in front of them especially when common sense is down the tubes. It is extremely frustrating.

Thank you Barbara. A very kind review. Yes, a bit of compassion would be helpful. She would not continue to use the disabled permit if she recovers. No one particularly wants to display a photo of themselves with a bald head for any longer than necessary anyway. And having been in that position she would know not to use the permit unnecessarily.

This angers me. I don't know the answer, but something must change. Whoever is running the place needs to be called to account. When I see people using one of these handicap signs and it's obvious it isn't theirs, I'd like to kick 'em. And someone like your friend can't get one. Outrageous!

I smiled at your review - you may be small in stature, but what a strong lady you are!! Checks are in place to try to avoid those situations, and I understand the need for them, but I think they just like to wield their "power" sometimes. I am sure a compassionate person could have looked into how to over-ride the system for such circumstances as these, on the very first day. Thanks so much for reviewing. Much appreciated.

This was a sad commentary on those who follow rules to strictly enforce them for no consideration or compassion given in a case when the need is made absolutely clear. it must be more than discouraging for Kay and her mother.

That is disgusting! I wonder how they would react if it happened to one of their own. I'm so sorry that happened to your friend, and her poor mother, she must have been devasted at the lack of help. I hate people like that. There has to be some common sense in circumstances like this. I do hope your friend gets over her cancer, Wendy. Sandra xx
