Only you could make a poem about an antique clock fascinating! The rhymes and meter are, of course, flawless --your trademark-- but the emotion and heart that describes it makes for a most memorable read. Great work.

It keeps my mind off it, actually. Plus, I love reading your work. You're so seriously talented!! xoxo

Was this poem inspired by the music hall song 'My Grandfather's Clock as it does sound similar in places? Having said that the poem is amusing and the rhyming works really well. Also, the poem has a good steady rhythm which I like. No wonder it won the competition - well done

Congratulations on your well deserved win of the contest. Your grandfather's clock is a precious legacy that keeps his memory alive and serves as a constant reminder of his love and your love for him. Your endearing poem brought a smile to my face as I envisioned the clock. Beautiful.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and comments. I'm so pleased it brought a smile to your face. I wonder if you noticed that when I said "hands down" in the final stanza the clock in the picture was reading 6.30 (cooperating with me for once!) Best wishes, Debbie

Despite the clock's imperfections - it "loses time" and is "unruly" - your love for it remains undimmed. The clock has become a symbol of their father's memory and enduring presence in their life, a tangible reminder of the love and connection that continues even after death. Great stuff Debbie!

If objects we own could talk the stories they would tell. I enjoyed reading this and felt connected to the clock for some reason. Not sure if that was the intent but it was well enjoyed.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and comments. I'm delighted that you felt a connection. I wonder if you noticed that, in the picture, the clock's hands were pointing at 6.30 in reverence to the "hands down" of the last stanza (it will sometimes cooperate!) Best wishes Debbie

CONGRATULATIONS on winning first place. I can see why it did. I like how you have incorporated play on words to bring more depth of meaning and life to your father and his dear old clock - passing time, loses time, minute defects, hands down - all very clever. A wonderful read.

A lovely story about the background which led you to purchase your treasured clock, beautifully presented in verse. Congrats on winning the contest - I can see why you did. BTW my uncle, Seth Conmore Spencer, was named after a clock in my grandfather's shop. Nana thought it was a lovely name but I'm afraid Seth hated it.

I really enjoyed this! Funny, quirky, and relatable. My only question: do you practice timed fire drills...because you may want to make sure it's not too far off timewise...lol.
Congrats on the win, you very much deserved it!

It such a lovely poem dedicated to your old clock. I can understand why it won the contest hands down, to use your own expression. It was a lovely entrance, and thanks so much for sharing. Ulla:)))
