I agree we put much effort into the Holidays, but I believe they serve as a release from the seriousness of everyday happenings. Jesus can still and always will be an everlasting force, and I think he welcomes whatever will make us joyous. After all, we are to live in his image to follow as his children in his footsteps. Thank you for sharing this well-done piece. Best, JohnC

Hi John, I thank you so very much for your kind review and understanding words for this poem. I certainly not here to put down any holiday and take away from the fun.
I love the fun ones too, but truthfully think we have too much violence and scary aspects in life and hate to give more of those ideas towards our children's future.

I've always found it strange that people could celebrate Halloween at all, with its theme of the living dead. Hopefully children don't seem to have the capacity to think or feel very deeply about the gruesomeness of it all. I guess its like the use of sugar skulls.

I agree 100% with your notes, and with your very clever poem! You wrote it so well. There is nothing, or very little, holy about these special events in the Christian calendar now, taken over and subsumed by commercialism. Very well written.

A Christian take on Halloween? Nicely done. Many Christians do not celebrate Halloween seeing it as a pagan holiday or even a satanic holiday. I always liked Halloween as a kid.

So many of our holidays have turned into just another
commercialism occasion for merchants. You did a great
job. Mystery Author, with your contest entry. Your words
were carefully chosen and showed readers how utterly lost
most are with the true reason for some holidays like Memorial
Day, Christmas, and Easter. Your end rhymes were super as was
the smooth flow. The words were descriptive which allowed
readers to picture this in their minds as they read. Many people
go so overboard on Halloween with the gore and destructive
behavior. Another day of it would be disastrous. You gave
excellent reasons for Jesus to have His own day. Halloween can
be fun to a point, but one day is plenty. If all the holidays were
doubled, we would be in a mess. The people of the US need to
learn and believe what specific holidays mean, not just run amok.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

I always thought Easter is for Jesus but I grew up in Spain where we don't have the bunny and Easter eggs thing so is all about Jesus.

Good job with your entry for the Halloween In Spring contest.

Yes, I was talking about how even our Christian holidays have the deterrent that makes it hard to determine what they are actually celebrating.. And how nice that Spain only celebrates the resurrection. I just don't care for the evil and gory that some seem to enjoy with Halloween, but have no problem with the fun aspect of any occasion. Joy and fun are always welcome in my book. Thanks Gypsy for a lovely review and very kind words for my poem.

Good job. If someone went trick-or-treating as Jesus, I'll bet they would get more candy. The Holy Ghost might be a good costume, also. A religious format would be a good change.

I'm with you. When I was a kid in the sixties and seventies, it seemed innocent enough; just an evening out trick or treating in a costume and getting a bag full of candy. My mother always was a bit skeptical of Halloween. She used to make us go to the church party that night; ducking for apples, pinning the nose on the pumpkin, musical chairs, cupcakes and a costume contest. Today all this day of the dead stuff and all the over the top macabre decorations seem to take all this too seriously and point to a celebration of death rather than life. I'll take the day of life over the day of the dead any day. estory

Hi,
This is a well rhymed poem which reminds us of the importance of the holidays of Christmas and Easter. Halloween started just as All Hallows Eve. The night before All
Saints Day. The Nature religions made it in a day of costumes to scare the bad spirits coming through the veil from other realms
Good luck with the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Joan
