I have this convo to myself every time I enter a contest. Maybe that's why it registered with me, plus the self-deprecating humor and names I recognize on the winners podiums. I have a similar humor and appreciate the vulnerability that goes with it; however you actually feel about yourself with entering these contest. I remember... literally yesterday entering a Senryu thinking the same thing... "maybe I don't spend on this one I got no votes on the last one LOL" :) Good luck either way enjoying to read and relate to! At least.

I rarely get to review the top page unless it's in a contest that I rarely review. But now that I read this, I can assure you none of those listed would laugh "at" you. If anything, we would laugh *with* you for coming up with this humorous take on the challenge, and even promoting it astronomically. Best wishes in the contest!

Barbara, it was all offered tongue in cheek. It struck me as a funny way to look at the contest. I did get one condescending review. I guess he didn't see the humor. Thanks for reading...it really is not about winning a contest., It was about having fun writing the story.

Comparing ourselves to other writers is a complete and utter waste of time. It's self-defeating. Mind you, name-checking writers is always a good way to gain some recognition - pandering always works.
As does paying out a ridiculous amount of money that costs more than the contest pays out, all for a stupid digital ribbon that means nothing...

Hey, I would never laugh at you!! But you do have to decide also if it is a good thing to win the losers' contest. Would you really want that? Anyway I am a big loser- I lost my phone wallet with all my cards and ID more than two weeks ago and I'm still sorting out the ensuing mess. Better to lose a contest. Anyway, I love your entry! And I definitely won't laugh at you.
