I enjoyed your lively story very much, the whiff of weed in the air and a full belly of beer as wonderful music and fine musicians are being remembered. I felt like I was there at the concert.
I don't live in USA so it was interesting to learn a few more facts about the music scene and Willie's life. I always enjoyed his music and like Kris too.

Nice, down-home tribute to Willie Nelson. You seemed to capture the essence of the man very well and this brought back a lot of memories. When the "Outlaws" album came out, I played it so many times I had to get another one after a couple months. I saw Willie here in Houston when he was 86 and couldn't believe how adept he was, both singing and on the guitar. The guy is timeless.

As for the writing, I really don't see much that can be improved. Good job. Maybe Willie himself will read this some day.

I remember the first time I ever saw Willie Nelson. He was hailed as a talented piano player, singer, and star of the future. On his album cover he sat at the piano, clean cut, hair tapered short around his ears, tailored suit and tie. He looked nothing like the outlaw, dope-head Willie we've all come to recognize and appreciate. A true legend of an entertainer, and a laidback balladeer who always seems so likeable. Thanks for sharing.

Dang Ric, If you remember Willie like that, you must be almost as old as me. LOL, but you still have a good memory. Thanks for reading. Terry.

Yes, sir, even when there isn't much to look forward to, we are lucky to have our memories and the ability to find our cars in the parking lot. I'm old enough to remember sitting on Jerry Lee Lewis's piano and singing as he rehearsed at Marty's Nightclub in Lexington, KY. A name I hadn't remembered in years until you brought it up. LOL.

Dang, Ric you really need to write a memoir piece about some of that...It would be very well received. Think about it. Terry.

Thanks, Terry. I have some fun memories, but I pretty much stick to fiction. There is more than enough truth in my fiction than I care to admit. LOL. It's always a pleasure to read your work and share our thoughts. :-)

This is an excellen story about Willie and country music. Growing up in the South and living in Tennessee you have to have a love of country music. Growing up, I like pop and rock, Now there isn't a lot of music I don't care for. My favorite stations to listen to on XM is Willie's Roadhouse and Elivis. At night I sleep to more mellow music.

Terry,

Congratulations on this ATB. It is so deserving! I wasn't a teenager in 1961, but I also enjoyed Willie in my later years.
Some of the things you wrote I didn't know about him. I enjoyed the piece. It's hard to believe he's ninety years old. Loved it!

We don't listen to country music in the UK, it is considered old fashioned. But when I visited Florida we had a fine country station tuned in on our car radio and I became a big fan in a short time. It was mainly the lyrics as all the songs were so touching, one song in particular called (Austin) by Blake Shelton was magical. I enjoyed your tribute to Willie Nelson who is now 90 years old, how time flies. It sounds like country music has brought some happy memories to life for you and your Mother, a fine post, much enjoyed Terry, love Dolly x

What a neat story about a unique figure in country music history. Heartwarming and inspiring that he was able to buck the trends and forge his own path to success in a competitive and seemingly well-defined arena. He is one of a kind and beloved by many.

What a great description you've provided about your experience going to that concert where it sounds like he would have kept playing until the last member in the audience left. What an exciting night that must have been. Well-written and fun, Terry. Jim

I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane. During the 60s, when I met my future husband, I was a piano student who liked rock and roll, but my favorites were Ferrante and Teicher, Rodger Williams, Ahmad Jamal, Henry Mancini, Herbie Hancock, and Liberace. My boyfriend liked rock and roll and country music. His favorite was Willie Nelson. We got married anyway.

I appreciate all the information you've provided about a country music legend, who because of my husbands music collection, I came to like and enjoy.

You're a man after my own heart, Terry. Those old timers were my favorites. I think Willie and David Allan Coe are about the only two who are still alive. Jamie Johnson fits right in with those old timers.
