Hello Terry,
What a great story, so informative. I read a book last year about Willy, but I'll be damned if I remember the title. It was eye opening as well. I knew that he'd gotten in trouble with the IRS. I never heard about him writing the song for Faron. That was pretty upright for him to see the need and the potential and not to gyp his friend. I've got quite a few of Willie's songs on my Ipod, he's got a unique voice that's easy to listen to. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

I am short of sixes or you would have one. I loved Willie and most of his songs. Being an Okie raised by Okie's country was the music around our house. In the 60's it stayed country, but I was into pop. I had both to listen to. You did a great job. Have a wonderful afternoon.

Willie is doing a concert in Austin over the July 4th weekend. I may be wrong about this, but I heard somewhere that this is his 50th anniversary of doing this concert. Thank you for sharing. Who doesn't love Willie.

Wow. This was a great piece of writing on a great artist and person, Willie Nelson. My favorite song of his is "Whiskey River": it rocks.
I used to be the New York intern for Justice Records based in Houston. They were close with Willie Nelson. A small Blues label. But I never met or saw him live in concert.
Nice writing, nice subject.

Great job, Terry. You tell Willie Nelson's story well and interweave your memories of enjoying music and attending his concert with Zoe.
Willie playing for four hours, and his interaction with the crowd says a lot about the man. He is unpretentious and down to earth.
I particularly enjoyed the description of the concert with you and Zoe.
Best wishes,
Mary

Well, it is good to be back, Terry. I loved the sentimentality of this real-life story about The Outlaw, Willie Nelson, himself. He lived the life he so chooses and pleased himself and his audience most of all. I also love Willie and my favorite song is On the Road Again!
He sure knew how to sing a rocking good song and belt out his feelings toward the music industry at the same time!
Thanks for sharing your love of The Outlaw even though Texas is not one of the States that honors Weed to be smoked without criminal charges leveled against one!

You were a teenager, at a time I was an infant, so to me this is a history lesson, rather than an amble down memory lane. One of the things I regret most about my age is I was never taught how to twist! Nice piece! kay

I truly enjoyed reading this special story. Firstly, I love to see Zoe's name. What a beautiful, unique, cool name, especially for woman in the 1970s if I'm understanding the timeframe. It would be a beautiful name at any time and now it's the name of an angel.

So we there's

That was a most interesting, comprehensive and informative piece of good writing about Willie Nelson. An excellent tribute. Love the bit about "Roll me up and smoke me when I die" - that's my style of humour. Well done.

Ah, Terry--you have touched upon a man who turned my head from rock to country so long ago!

I had the pleasure of seeing him at an outdoor concert here in Mass. in Hubbatdston, at the Riatta Ranch.

He sang "Golden Earrings" that night and I was mesmerized.

I knew a guy who knew a guy and got invited back to meet Willie on his tour bus.

(Wow--still a highlight of my life despite the smoke from all the weed!)

Go listen!

Willie Nelson - Golden Earrings (Official Video)

His music was a bridge connecting my dad and me.

Love your story and the easy way you braided your personal experience with so many biographical facts!

I sure know what I'll be listening to as I climb into bed!

The "Outlaw" still rules!

Lucky me huh? I got to go to Woodstock... I once drove with friends and "dropped" in at Arlo Guthries' house (and he welcomed us in!) and Willie's bus. My unusual but oh-so-fun musical adventures have made me smile for decades!
