Terry. That was a fantastic post. A little Terry history, a lot of Willie history, some serious notes and many comical twists throughout.

I'm not a Willie or country music fan (please don't hold that against me). I am a fan of the well written informative story, like this one!

On the road again...cheers!
John

This is a wonderful tribute to the man, the myth, the legend.

I loved when he sang with The Outlaws. Hands down the best group of all times.

Thanks for writing this informative piece, my friend!

This is a good story, nicely written. I'm glad you were able to enjoy Willie in concert. Did you mean (Big) D Jamboree? You included many good descriptive details about the concert. I like the story about Faron Young. Thanks for sharing. Blessings. Carol

I grew up on 1960's to 2000 R&B. I also grew up in Detroit during the Motown heyday. I even had an unofficial date to audition for Motown, but Joined the Air Force instead. I turned into a pretty good singer for a time, but ruined my voice by excessive drinking and smoking. I love Willie Nelson, I think that if he wanted a career as a crooner, he could easily do it. He wrote a song "Ain't it funny how time slips away." That song ahs been covered by several R&B singers, Joe Hinton and R&B vocal group, The Spinners. They pretty much sing it same way Willie sung it and each version rocks. I love all the versions. To me Willie is the only white country singer who sounds like he is singing R&B, without even trying.

Very entertaining. I've never been a country music fan but I know who Willie Nelson is. I think you'd have to be living under a rock not to at least have heard his name. I did have a friend who had 4 beagles, Willie, Waylon, Loretta and Patsy. And those dogs could sing! I did enjoy reading this. Gretchen

"Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die." That's a funny line. It reminded me of the Stones' Cliff Richard (according to his own words) snorting his father's ashes like it was coke. Those guys live in a world of their own making and it IS above the law in a lot of respects. Yours is the kind of easy-going, conversational writing I adore.

You did a great job, Terry. Willie Nelson is and will always be
an icon. I enjoyed reading your story for its historical facts on
music and personal info from you about the concerts attended.
You organized this perfectly. WN has a unique sound along with
his personal history. I know he supported Farm Aid many many
years. I believe his long hair and bandanna worn with it goes back
to his Native American heritage.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

I think my favourites were seeing the first take of "Jesus Christ super star" about ten years before God confronted me, and the Bee Gees, a few years before they became famous on the world stage, their musical careers were spawned in Australia, along with Helen Reddy, INXS, AC/DC, Air Supply, Keith Urban, but I loved Willie Nelson, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Lol. Great story, Terry! I knew I would learn lots from you about Willie when I saw you posted. So glad you went to that contest. You answered a bunch of questions about his moniker and problem with the law and his weed habit, but what's with the long hair? Don't get me wrong, some guys look great with long hair but when I was in high school C&W were all clean cut. Then when I entered middle age, suddenly Country music types were the very "hippies" they were making fun of in the 1970s. But I guess that is just human and history. Thanks for sharing!
