I understand why Moses broke the stone tablets when he came down from Mount Sinai. I probably would have done the same. We have a wonderful constitution but it too has been and not upheld in it's unique form. Our constitution is balanced, as the ten commandments are, to regard the life of another. Deeper still is the law of Christ: to love one another as love is a basic requirement to everything else. The good book says if we don't have love, we don't have anything.

What you and I don't read in the headlines is how many unborn children were aborted and how many were abused, beaten and made to do unspeakable things. Gun violence is in the headlines because it's become political, not because our leaders necessarily care. They get elected because they have a lot of connections and money, blame the opposition, yet continue to ride on the backs of human misery. Consequently, our children suffer the most.

Chicago is rarely in the news, yet, it's gang violence has gone unchecked weekend after weekend, children oftentimes killed in the crossfire. I wonder why the news cameras aren't on them? Chicago policewoman Areanah Preston was shot to death three days ago after her shift. They have multiple suspects. She was still finishing her degree in criminology. Illinois has very strict gun laws. Does it help them? unfortunately no.

All of this grieves me, not just some of it, but it doesn't surprise me. Jesus said before He returns the world will resemble a dark place: weather phenomenons, astronomical signs, corruption, sexual perversions, blasphemy, advanced technology and travel, turmoil, famine, plagues (Covid-19, anyone?), wars and rumors of wars, bloodshed, violence, false religions and false Christs. As a student of the Bible, I feel we are in the times long predicted. There's no doubt in my mind.

That being said, my hope in all of this is in the Lord. I will be busy for Him until he arrives, hoping to make a difference in this world.

Thank you for sharing, Terry. A most compelling write and six star worthy.

Sending you my best today as always.
Sal Xo

Sally, thank you for the six-star...I would strongly urge you you post the elements of your review as a commentary. I think it would be well received by most, and may give cause for debate from others. Give it some thought, it is very well written, as usual. Terry.

Thank you, Terry. All of my commentary or some? I am already working on the end times part since I was a Sunday school teacher for decades. I was also a contributing writer for raptureready.com before coming here to hone my writing skills. Thank you for your kind encouragement.
    Blessings!

It is way past time, Terry! I have come to believe that in my lifetime I, or someone I know, will either witness or become a victim to, gun violence. It is inevitable. People say, "I'm not going to stop living my life because of this.". Well, possibly they will.

We must CALL our local and state legislators and work to vote them out!

Hello Terry,
I agree with you that the killing is senseless. I'm going to go against the grain here though and say that in cities where more gun control is the law, there is an increase in violence. Of course the slaughter of the innocent in such a violent manner causes a massive response. I wish that the news media would cover a live abortion the way they cover the slaughter of innocents by gun violence. In this country we've slaughtered over sixty million babies via abortion. Millions of ladies are declaring it's their right to kill their unborn babies. Is there a difference in killing someone with a gun and killing someone with a scalpel or cutting noose? In my humble opinion, the problem is that we've spent years turning away from God and demanding our rights. What you've mentioned is the end result. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

No it is not too much to ask. I am a praying person, but offering up our thoughts and prayers ring empty. We need action from those we have elected to keep us safe. Good write. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Dear poet, this very worthy
write deserves 6 stars, but I
ran out earlier today, so a 6th
star from Heaven. Both "major events" you mentioned
first only got a yawn from me.
But the tragic gun violence
shootings and deaths never
cease to rip my heart out
again, over and over. A young
woman in the city I live near
was excited to be 9 weeks
pregnant. She just had her
first obstetrics appointment.
The following evening, she
was shot at close range by
her young adult boyfriend
who had told her to get an
abortion. This courageous
young woman refused to
have an abortion, and both
her and her baby died that
tragic night. You must be
shook up with the heartbreaking shooting
catastrophe that happened so
close to where you live. In
the city and suburbs here,
some houses and apartments
have been shot into. I totally
share in your shock and
and sorrow. ~

You give a very valid and thoughtful opinion on the state of affairs. The elected officials and clergy should be seeking solutions in addition to offering prayers in the wake of such horrible tragedies. Evi

It's not too much to ask. Are guns really worth what the cost is to society? I'm a country girl and I have nothing against guns, but this is stupidity with and in the powers at be. I know we are in God's hands, but all I can say now is, God, help us. Shirley

I believe we would have less crime if we didn't have the News Media! They sensationalize it and the sick individuals' who think about doing it decide they can do it better. Why can't they quit telling about the bad news and tell about the good things happening every day, everywhere? That goes unnoticed. Make examples of the goofballs. Let them know they will pay quickly and dearly for their actions and MAYBE it will end. I avoid the news. I have enough drama in my life. Good article Terry. Nancy:)

I agree with you! The road we are on as a country is scary. I don't think it is too much to ask of our elected officials to do their jobs and change this culture. This post was very well done. Sarah

Amen, Terry! I don't understand why these people love their right to own guns more than God. All this talk about the Second Amendment does not adhere to having a "well ordered militia" hold all gun owners responsible for how they use their guns. It has to stop! Even in the "wild west" some towns had laws that said, "Leave your guns outside before you enter" to protect their own. Why can't we do that now?
Thank you for this wonderful rant. It puts a lot into perspective - about watching the coronation, the horse race, while people are killed by people who should have never been able to get a gun in the first place!
