Believe my thoughts and feelings concerning AI have been posted on a few occasions.

Totally agree with your comments. People better start talking about, and more importantly, get a real grip on AI before it is too late and everyone ends up having to "go live in the woods" as you so aptly indicated.

For "peace of mind," or maybe even merely being able to survive "by the skin of my teeth," may be the result of a world full of AI.

By the way, "skin of my teeth" is a cliche.

    Thanks for the helpful review.
I am glad we are on the same page.
Sometimes I like to use cliches to emphasize a point.
    Have a good week.

Hi Jesse,
Son you will become a hermit and live like a pioneer. It will be a lot healthier, in both food and air quality.
I agree with you about the dangers of AI. I think the only thing it may be good for is to be installed in all personal vehicles to make them drive and park themselves so there would be no car accidents and no speeding. But that would take some work from cops and ambulance drivers.
Keep writing and stay healthy

I won't be a hermit since a lot of folks want to join me. And I hope you are wrong with AI driving our cars, trucks, and ambulances around without the freedom of movement. I can see plenty of trouble ahead from artificial intelligence running our lives. I hope you will see it too.
I will continue to write and stay as healthy as possible under the present conditions.
    Stay in touch!

You're welcome, Jesse, Tesla is the closest to a self driving car. I don't like the idea of AI possibly taking the personal aspect of health care.

I hadn't thought of health care. Yes, that scares me to death!

Yes, I absolutely agree here! I was listening to something the other day - a guy who was behind all this innovation has now spent the last 10 years warning - or trying to - that this could be like an alien invasion! Because the people currently working with this technology don't understand it properly and it's all moving too fast. By, for example, feeding in that the universe is in grave danger due, for example, to man's activities, AI might choose to eradicate the whole of mankind! And, as you say, all we worry about is chickenfeed in comparison! Thanks for sharing this very worthwhile post. Debbie

The very people who invented AI now warn us against its use and if we don't heed the warning we are in grave danger!
Thank you for your thoughtful review.
I am glad you are paying attention to their warnings and I hope you learn more about the direness of this infection to our way of life!
We need to pay attention to the importance of this!

Jesse,
This is a fantastic treatise on the dangers of progress, like AI. I fear it.
I think we are getting closer to the end in a spiritual, or physical way. There are too many negative things in the world, as you have written above.
I hope you are well and still on your way to physical healing.
You're an excellent writer and I hope you continue to write.
My back has healed, though I'm a little weak at times (other causes)
Blessings,
Hugs,
Cindy

Thanks, Cindy, for sharing your thoughts. I want you to know I am doing fine, and I hope you continue to gain strength, as you go along in this crazy mixed-up world we live in. I am grateful for your review...and for a spiritual and physical revival in my personal growth!
    Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Wow. Great impact! And yes, you did make me uncomfortable, but in a way that boosted my awareness of the upcoming threat. I see more and more about the dangers of AI in the news but that does not seem to slow the development of AI.
The self-reliance satisfaction of returning to a 'basic survivalist life' is very attractive, but having been there and done that, it is a very hard life. 90+% of your time is spent in that, just surviving. One surprising thing was how fast we learned skills that improved our efficiency.
Good work,
irish

Thank you, Irish for these helpful tips for surviving in the wilderness without the need for computers and cell phones.
I needed to hear how it really was for those who have done it before.
Thanks for your uncomfortableness we all need to feel that way since it will be taking over our lives soon enough.
Good to know and I am glad to start the needed conversation about AI.

Man has a tendency do that. Living alone in the woods will not chain the elephant. Lassoing the critter will only make things worse. The answer is found in the Holy Bible. His name is Jesus. "Come to me, all of you who are in need, and I will give you rest." Facts. The answer is in the Word.

Thank you for opening the door to the elephant ... I think.
What fears me is that some capitalists (meant in a nice way) will see profit and gain by the use of IA and then there will be no stopping them.

AI makes headlines in much of the news media. A writer on this site named a website that could write poetry. I saw a demonstration of such a website on TV. You speak to it as you speak to Google or Alexa, and it writes an essay on what you request. Yikes! AI is also used in other ways...as in political arenas, as it spews messages on social media where the reader cannot tell a non-human posted its opinion.

I watched a documentary about how people are choosing to live in the woods...How they build tents, manage food, shower, and help one another. You have provided lots of food for thought in this post. Thank you.

I do live in an extremely wooded area in Vermont. I love living here. We have a dirt road that becomes mud pudding. But everyone watches out for each other even though we like tenths of a mile away from each other. No AI here, only if we get reception. We get lots of groceries to hold us over for a couple of months. I sled in my 40# bags of wood pellets. I've read enough about Alexa always listening. My friend had it but her husband has cancelled the contract. I'm glad.

That sounds like a wonderful choice to me!
Your choice to live in Vermont in a wooded area is a great one and I feel like I need to go there or someplace like that where I can live and breathe free of Computers and all the other High technology devices that compel others to choose money and fame over the great outdoors.
I too am glad your friend cancelled Alexa and found peace of mind in the woods.

Hi Jesse, a timely and thought-provoking story. You are right, AI will happen, if we want it or note. It will also so more bad and evil than good. The writing is on the wall. No One will know what to believe or not believe. We will all become paranoid.

More and more people are choosing to live off-the-grid, so the Woods are going to get quite crowded.

Well done; well expressed. I hope you get to live the life you want.
Margaret
