This is great. My aunt killed herself at age 33, back in 1968--because her parents and siblings refused to accept she was a Lesbian.
I was fifteen, and I still miss her!
How sad that as far as we've come, people are still hiding, pretending, or God forbid, dying!

Congratulations on your milestone post! This reminds me of a friend of mine. He wasn't so much in the closet as he just held a coathanger in front of his face once in a while. LOL. Your story was sweet. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

I enjoyed reading the delicate way you wrote a fictitious story about a contemporary subject that included a wise lesson at the end. The world is a better place when people are free to be who they really are, without being ridiculed.
I agree with your statement about being free to scroll on. I do it when I'm not interested in a subject or when the writing is too bad to critique.

I enjoyed reading the delicate way you wrote a fictitious story about a contemporary subject that included a wise lesson at the end. The world is a better place when people are free to be who they really are, without being ridiculed.
I agree with your statement about being free to scroll on. I do it when I'm not interested in a subject or when the writing is too bad to critique.

I'm not offended, my son, Angel is gay and she came out in her teens. I always loved them (them is the pronoun Angel prefers. They was born as a girl and for years we called them Angelica, until recently when they asked. Angel told me they didn't mind if I still call them "she and her or Angelica, and I must admit it's taking me a while to adapt to the they pronoun that Angel prefers. But I love they, Angel so much I don't care if they is gay. Angel is a beautiful person, kind, intelligent, talented... just perfect the way they is.
When Angel was a teenager they brought many gay friends that I always loved and accepted them as they are. Many called me Mom. A lot of then came from homophobic families who abused them and they just wanted to be accepted and loved, as we all do. They are humans like you and me.
Anyway, I like your story. It's done with respect and from a neutral point of view. Well done.

Angel sounds wonderful. I'm glad this resonated with you. I had a cousin who hid his homosexuality until he wS in his twenties. When he finally admitted to being gay, the family turned on him. It was like he was dead. So sad and needless. Thanks for this. Gretchen

This is delightful as the younger people want to make sure they do not make their uncle feel bad. But they also want him to feel free to be gay. It is wonderful news that his wife was his best friend. But uncle was right. They should have asked, not assumed. Very well written and the story unfolds in the kindest way it could.
