Oh, estory, you are touching a weak spot here. Thor or Tor, as he is spelled in the Scandinavian languages, has forever been my hero. Every time I hear a thunder clap I say out loud. 'Oh that's Thor being angry again, swinging his hammer!' I loved your poem. Thanks for bringing this important message in your poem. Ulla:)))

Thanks for the excellent review and I am glad you liked that little bit about Thor. I was trying to convey the sense that we have lost some of that old feel for the magic of the world in all this technology of today explaining everything away. estory

And I I think most have, lost the sense of magic. It's rather sad, come to think about it.:)))

This is too true. I am reminded of my grandmom who used to grumble about weather reports as they came on TV. "What's all this fuss about? I open the window. If it's wet, it's raining!"

Perhaps what she was really saying is what you've laid out here. Enough with the barometric pressure and warm/cold fronts...and enough of the "predictions" that are sadly incorrect as often as they are correct!

Oh, just for a moment, to go back to the days when one would stick their finger in the air to test the wind...

Technology has siphoned the magic out of many things... Not the least of which is the human ability to interact face to face!

Thanks for the excellent review and I think your comment "Technology has siphoned the magic out of many things" really sums up what I was trying to say in the poem. I forgot to mention how much I owe Jack Anderson in the construction of these prose poetry pieces. estory

Glad you mentioned that! Technology is a blight as much as it is considered "advanced."

I love the imagery you are setting up here dear friend, growing up, my perception in youth was different to now, we moved from the temperate shores of England, with its varied weather, to a fascinating land of sunshine and vastness, so my recollections are wonderfully mixed, this is a marvellous post my friend, beautiful written blessings Roy

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the weather; what you speak of is the great contrast between wet and dry, small and vast. estory

The digital age will certainly have long-lasting and far-reaching effects on our culture, education, lifestyle and understanding, and the lack of connection with nature further alienates us from mystical realities. Nowadays, mysticism exists more in movies than in real life...even Thor lives there too (in film).

Well-voiced prose-like poem. Good flow.

One spelling: labeling only has one L
(*in US English, anyway)

Labelling the air temperature and the water temperature,

Labeling the air

Love the AHA effect of your closing:

When weather was caused by Thor
Swinging his hammer against the frost giants.

Warmly,
rd

Wonderful to hear from you as always, my old friend. This piece is maybe not one of my better ones. It is a prose poetry type of thing in the line of Jack Anderson's Little Poems from Somewhere Else. But I'm finishing up this series on technology that was delayed in posting by my dad's stroke and passing. estory

I see your point, but when I was a kid , I didn't live in the machine. We didn't have a radio to get the weather news and the Farmers' Almanac was always wrong, but my grandpa could stand on the back porch and look at the sky and tell you exactly what the weather would be like. I thought he was the magic man who made the weather.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the piece, which I think sums up the theme here. Technology may be convenient, it may explain away the magic of the world and make us feel like we understand things better, but in that we lose something of the excitement of the unknown and the mystical and magical. The soul of the world estory

I agree with your perception. The television box we grew up with tells us how to perceive the world! And I choose not to watch it for that very reason! I loathe television and all it represents! I hope to live in the world of yesteryear where everything is real as it should be and there are plenty of fish to fry and meat to tenderize. Thank you for sharing and I would love for you to view the animated world of Thor and his mighty wielding hammer hammering out the weather!

Thanks for the excellent review and this is my theme here in the nutshell. Almost everyday I have some kind of problem with my phones, my computer, the internet connection; I wish too to go back to the simpler time when you went to the bank to speak to a teller or sent your typewritten copy by letter to a publisher. estory

I still go to a live teller at a bank...and have people call me rather than text me. They may be caught up with the new technology, but I refuse to go along with all this stuff.
Let us hope the future looks kindly on us and gives us what we deserve.

This is a very interesting poem that expresses some interesting ideas. I do agree that technology takes some of the magic and mystery out of living but, as an ex-scientist, I do like to understand too.
I like the structure of your poem which reads well but I think personally that the first verse is a little too long. I think that I would have left out the line beginning 'listening to the weatherman...' as you have already said about the weather on TV. Also, I would not have used 'describing' twice as a first word, as I think you could have done without it in the seventh line.
Nevertheless I do like this poem

Thanks for your excellent review and your interesting comments on this topic. I think your response highlights the dichotomy in our society; we love the idea and the soul of magic, but we also love to understand things. But do we have to understand everything? estory

i like the contrast between the first stanzas and the second stanzas showing how we have lost faith in the magic and mystery of the universe replacing it with a blind faith in technology and science.

Excellent free verse illustrating man's need for more than a scientific explanation for the "magic" of what goes on around us.

I must admit to rarely listening to the weather report, but for farmers, aviators and construction workers it is a must and certainly is a big help in planning a day's work.

I agree that weather has become more of a "sensation" than simple reporting and that can lead to a sense of unreality for passive observers.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on my theme. I guess it is true to that these satellites and scientifically analyzed weather reports are beneficial to those in harms way or who depend of weather for their livelihood. But I like to lament on the loss of the soul of the world none the less estory

I am in total agreement with you about living in the machine. In this day of technology I think all of us have lost quite a bit. Many of us has roster I ability to get even imagine something new and different. I live in a home where the family is constantly on there iPad or on their phone whatever and it's just it's really frustrating because we don't have it Conversations are used to have when I didn't have a standard things.
