I have always have cats and a dog as well. So you can imagine I have lost a few in my 70 years, and it hurts every single time.Right now, I have a three year old cat and a dog.

It is not easy when they are no longer with us, but I think you are approaching it the right way. It was nice of David to take care of some of things serving as reminders around your apartment.
You make a good point about carrying on with your usual activities. It is important because you are not focusing on your loss all the time, and as you said, you don't want to go in depression over it. I also think that getting an older cat is a good idea when you are ready. That cat will then have a loving home and you will have a new companion. I think Sunny would be pleased that you want to do that when the time is right. Take care.

Thank you, Pam, for your compassionate review. You always give great advice and I am trying to follow it although at times it is hard. I hope you understand why it has taken so long for me to reply. I mainly listen to music and audiobooks instead of going online with my laptop.
Sunny would definitely be pleased if I find a new kitty to replace her companionship.

Hi Jesse,
Sorry for your loss. Cats can be as loving and protective as dogs. I have had both so I know. Some cats act as if they rule their surroundings in the times they aren't soothing your needs. It is good to stay with your normal daily routine as soon as you can.

Thanks for understanding why my reply is so late. I have been listening to music and audiobooks instead of answering reviews on Fan Story. Mourning Sunny's passing keeps me away from my computer most of the time.

This is heart-breaking, Jesse. I'm sure I don't know quite how you feel because everyone is different, but I have gone through this a few times myself with my cats, and it takes a while to get through it.
I don't think non-pet owners will ever be able to quite understand how we feel about our pets. They aren't just animals but true, lovable, trusting companions, who you may feel more of a kinship with than most people you know. They hold a position in the family almost like that of a child, and it is definitely love that we feel for them.
I wish you the best in your future without Sunny. It sounds like she was a wonderful companion. Jim

My heart goes out to you. I have been in your place many times over the years. Cats are such great companions. My two felines have taken care of me since my husband passed on. Sunny is a great and I am sure she is with you in spirit. I am sure many can relate to your story.
