There are so many ifs and buts in life that we can wrack our brains around the clock and never figure any of them out. But we just need to keep thinking, hoping, and doing what we think is right. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting, intellectually challenging, and beautifully penned. I was taught that before we were born, we were lost souls waiting to be born, but now this seems more like They didn't know the answer, so let us tell the kids a fairy tale.
The other part where I stray from the Ten Commandments is that I believe that the Beautitudes replaced the Commandments. At the time the Commandments were handed down, the Jews, as one God believers, had been enslaved and now free, and needed order and direction.
They as you say are the Commandments are safeguards that make one think twice.
I guess someday, I, too, will find the answers.
You are using up my six stars
Mary

    Will you join in the dialogue challenge?
    Thanks

    no. The reason is two fold. I am not that good a writer and most important, I am not only not too articulate, but not the brightest bulb in the tree.

Beautifully penned and illustrated poem of your spiritual thoughts. Many don't consider the spiritual life, or the condition of their souls. Everyone should as it is important.

The bible has the answer to your question about the soul and spirit.

In Psalm 139:
For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother's womb.
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were ordained for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming contest.
Sal :))

Tom, This is very interesting what you have penned. You used very interesting words. All I know is that I am going to be with Jesus Christ when I die! Thank you for sharing and best wishes in your non-fiction writing contest. Teri

    Good luck. If you are there in His arms, and you see me speaking to Peter at the gate, please, say a kind word to jesus, and maybe ... a kind word for me. Please.

    I have a feeling when I see Jesus face to face everything and everybody will leave my memory really fast. To see Jesus is my one true goal in life. Just ask Him to forgive you of your sins, which I know you know, and He will forgive you! I hope to see you there also my friend! Blessings, Teri

I think most people would wonder about the things others see differently. How can we be sure what we were taught was exactly the way things are. If we weren't supposed to use our brains to question those things, why did God give us that ability to began with. Personally, I don't believe our souls existed before we were born, but there are many people who would say I'm wrong. I also believe we will have a body in the afterlife. Christ had a body after he was resurrected. He could eat, but he could also pass through walls, so there is a lot to wonder about. I enjoy you non-fiction way of thinking.

    You are always kind in what you say. If we weren't previous to our birth, how did Jesus come and accept His role with a man with Mary. That's a quandry, as is Jerimiah who He knew before He was formed in the belly of his mom. Love always. Faith is a life jacket in life, hoping there is more to come. We won't know until we pass on.

    Of course Jesus was reincarnated from the form of God to that of a mortal man. The Greek word monogenes mean one and only or one of a kind or only begotten. My understanding is that Christ was originally a part of the Godhead and was the Word or the one who spoke and the world came into being. The creator. Doesn't your Catholic church teach three forms of the Godhead, the father, the son and the holy ghost?

Personally I believe we are all unique from birth with no prior life, and we are all offered eternal life by the One who is the only Way, Truth and Life. He's the Saviour, we either accept Him or not, and no matter how good we are we cannot ever 'earn' a place in heaven. Free gift. For anyone who trusts His atoning sacrifice. Your poem is thoughtful and thought provoking, dealing with big questions. Well done.

    Hmm. That's okay, but where did Jesus come from, and why does He speak of His Father? And Mary was a virgin, so how did that come to be. There is also that verse in "Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you. As for earning your way, correctimundae. Still, Catholicism believed in indullgences. during the Middle Ages. Thank you for your read and comments.

    The virgin birth is a mystery in one sense, yet God is Creator, so nothing is impossible. Just the same sort of thing as many of Jesus? miracles. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one, yet Jesus refers to Yahweh as Father. Yes his eternal knowledge is timeless, and before we were born He knew everything about our lives and all that would unfold. Indulgences are not a Biblical concept.
    You ask some big questions!

This is a wonderfully mentally challenging and other 'ings' piece of work. I really liked this line as we all wonder the same:

If I shall have life after I die,
while having lived before my death,
the only question yet to have answered
is where was my soul before its birth

Nicely done, Tom
