This is such a lovely poem. I know what you mean about what we see and what is actually going on beneath this tranquil scene, her paddle feet are working tirelessly to keep her afloat and cruising along the waters. Beautiful poem and gorgeous photo. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx

Really liked the last stanza, and the image of the lonely swan. The styling on this is great, as well. I like the color and font choice here. She was a worthy muse indeed!

Very beautiful piece with very striking imagery. And the message and parallels drawn throughout were very poignant and thought-provoking. The near rhymes were executed excellently. Very well done!

Once in England, I watched the Queen's swans. I loved your poem/story and wonder...maybe it is a lonely male? Who knows if it is? Swans were revered in the olden days but Henry V111 loved a delicacy; swan tongues were eaten! K xx

That is an excellent thought? and truth be told- I don?t know! This is too funny, because my husband asked me just yesterday if the Swan might be male lol I always appreciate your kind words and feedback! Thank you for your insight!

It's sad to think she is alone. You did a great job,
Jessica, with your contest entry. Your words were
descriptive of the pond, your thoughts, and the
beautiful swan. The rhymes worked well as did
the alliteration of r, s, p, n to name several. Your
advice at the end was well thought out.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

I have often wondered if the creatures in nature that mate for life do tend to be depressed when they lose their mate. I'd rather think this may well be the case with this particular, is one in the picture. Patricia.

This is a lovely close up of nature, and your imagery, especially as it relates to her movement, is brilliant. I liked the alliteration throughout. It flows seamlessly.

This is a beautiful tribute to a lovely swan whose story we may never know. But we can imagine that she has survived some kind of loss and is making the best of her situation. Yes, we can learn from nature. A great entry for the contest.

I saved this for you and thought it was going for another, but this is so beautifully told. We have a creek that my son built 2 bridges over it. It separates their home and ours. My grandsons have been coming to see grandma over that bridge for 15 years, but the beautiful part are the swans that stay close by because they do get fed. You did such a great job on this and it gave me the chills. Lol, it is a good thing that we don't vote in this one because besides myself, it would be a hard choice. Awesome job and well worth the six.

Hi Jessica.
This is both a sad and hopeful poem. She is alone for the rest of her life. But she seems comfortable to stay where she is. I didn't know that she had to paddle to stay in one place.
Congrats on winning the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great day
Joan
