This is the saddest story, striking very close to this mother's heart. Unfortunately, I have known many like your Jane. How sweet and tender of you to remember her and her unborn child on the day. I will be praying for you and for Jane's family. I'm sure their loss is keenly felt by all.

Sending you my best today as always, and love and blessings across the miles.

Hi Sally, I appreciate your kind and compassionate comments for my poem for my friends abusive marriage. This meant a lot to her to not let her death be in vain. Thanks again my dear friend!

Ugh. I can't tell you how many people I've heard say they were forced to have abortions by boyfriends, husband's even parents. It makes me so sad that a pregnancy is seen as a source of shame or a bad thing. Your poem made me stop and say a prayer for all who have had to do this against their will or hide their pregnancy. Babies are a source of joy. Gretchen

Hi Debi, I think it horrible that a man should be capable enforcing an abortion on a woman. To my mind it is a crime committed. It should always be a joint decision and, if that fails it's always, and I mean always down to the woman. I'm so sorry that this should cause your friend's death. It's too tragic.
It makes me angry that men should decide over a woman's body. Ulla xx

Thanks Ulla, I sure appreciate such kind words for her poem. Your reaction is one that I think she was hoping I would get to help others. He was abusive in every way possible, but he threatened to take her other kids away from her if she left him. And he had a lot of power in our town. A big business owner. So thank you so very much. It was good to see you again my dear friend.

Well, the thing is he did win in the end didn't he?
reply by the author on 07-Jun-2023
Yes, he did win. And as much as I kept telling her that no man should ever have that much control, she truly feared him. He is dead now too but I lose no sleep over that. She was the first friend I have ever lost.

It is terrifying. On a selfish note, I'm glad I've never been there. I can understand how shocking it must have been for you, losing a close friend to something like that.

First, let me say that this was a beautiful tribute to your friend. Second, I am so very sorry for your loss. I will pray that she is at peace and holding her baby in her arms. Abuse is a horrible thing, and far too many people suffer in silence and fear. My daughter is in an abusive relationship now, and is working hard at getting out of it.
With all that said, the flow was great, the rhyming was fantastic, the picture was beautiful and sad at the same time.
My only issue is that the font was a bit hard to read in some places due to the way certain letters were formed. Overall, though, a wonderful job.

Thanks Monica, yes, I know that whenever I make the decision to use a cursive font, it will be hard for some to see. Heck, I can barely see it but then that is why I am having my first eye surgery a week from today. Yay! However some work, just will not do with a regular font. Do you know what I mean? She deserves it to flow for her and so I wish there was something that was pretty in a plain font. Merienda font is what I usually use cause its pretty good but not for this one. But thanks Sweetie for this lovely review and for your kind words. You are always so kind, my friend,

I wish I had 100 stars to award you, Debi. It's people like you and do many others on this site that create a unity and family.

You honored your friend with a fabulous tribute. Knowing you for a short time, I'm sure you did whatever was in your power to help her!

A devastating end. A down right shame.

God bless you!
John

John, you are so sweet. Thank you for the kindest words and the six stars, and 100 virtual ones. You are the greatest! I thank you, Paula (I mean Jane)says thank you.. I hated to use her real name as she does have a couple kids and not sure if they know about their dad. Thanks again my very dear friend.

Debi, this is one of the saddest poems you have ever written. There is power in words. But I am thinking the most powerful part of this story is that you honor your friend every year with another poem about the tragedy of abuse. Very well done. Terry.

Terry, you are so kind. Thank you so much for such words for my poem for my friend. (Paula is her real name) I didn't want to use it because I don't know if her kids might ever see this and if they knew about their dad. Thanks again, my dear friend.
