A failed or failing relationship analogous to the neglect of nature, once fruitful now barren. Your imagery is impressively done and my favourite stanzas second from the bottom and last vividly capture the regret that not enough was done to nurture this lost relationship. Thanks for sharing Debbie

A very thought provoking poem, and very thoughtfully written. The fallow unproductive land seems to reflect the relationship which has passed the joys and energy of sprinkler and summer. Regrets are expressed about the lack of ongoing care needed to help the relationship to flourish and the result is that It is not valued , a mere doormat.

You've included and woven into your great free verse poem, of course farmers these days fertilise their fields to death. The don't leave their fields fallow to recover properly I really enjoyed the great post, well doe, blessings Roy

This poem, Summer Dons Fallow, seems to link the failing days of summer with its shortening hours, chilly, evenings, and withering flora to a relationship which has ended poorly and sadly. Interesting.
