I enjoy this poem a lot! I pictured you sitting there with your set watching the game and smelling popcorn! I am now very hungry... hahaha! Thank you so much for sharing! ~Janel

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the poem estory
Comment from Dolly'sPoems
Your imagination ran riot here and there is nothing like the real experience of a game and being in the crowd and of course sitting next to someone special too. But the traffics and the ride home is always an anticlimax and at least at home you can go to the fridge for a cold drink at any time! A fun post and you brought the scene to life with your words here, love Dolly x

Thanks for the excellent review and your reminding me of how I don't miss all the traffic in NY getting back to Long Island from Yankee stadium LOL estory

Yes, television changed our lives. I agree with the tenant that the world looking through the television set is not the same as real life. I agree that if you were there in the stadium of the baseball game you would hear the roar of the crowd and smell the hotdogs and the peanuts and if we had only not have been so influenced by the set we would be better people for it.
This shows us how life was and the author's notes further explain what your life was and then tells us why you wrote this essay.
Thanks for sharing this essay!

Thanks for the excellent review and I hope I get some people thinking. I like to make people think. estory

I also hope you get people thinking about how TV has affected their lives.
Thanks for questioning Television.

I really enjoyed this. It reminded me of listening to Arsenal games (they're a soccer team in England!) on the radio rather than signing up to pay to view. Your phrasing is gentle and easy and most effective. Thank you.

Thanks for the excellent review and I am sure my basic descriptions could apply to football in Europe as well. One of my best memories was going to a Cosmos game with my dad, who was from Germany. It was a beautiful late summer day in New York, and we got to see Pele, Beckenbauer, Chinaglia, Hunt, Carlos Alberto. That was right before Pele retired in 1977. estory

Your post reminds me a lot of what people have gone through during the pandemic. For months we watched life through our TVs and wondered what was really going on around us.
A lot it happens as we age, as well.
Thank you for sharing your message,
Rhonda

Thanks for the excellent review and your thoughts here were something I hadn't really considered in writing the piece, but it is true that in that time we were living our lives in media. estory

I think that makes your writing timeless. It?s always good to hit on such themes.
Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
An excellent verse skilfully conveying with some poignancy your longing to watch this game live and soak up all the atmosphere rather than having to watch through the medium of television. Your detailed description of the home experience, whilst still obviously a second best joy to you, pales into insignificance against the vibrancy of the real thing. I suppose what is missing for me here, therefore, is perhaps another stanza conveying many of the very evocative aspects of live play that you describe in your notes. I think that would have balanced your fine poem better, reinforcing your message. But good job! Debbie

Thanks for the interesting review and your interesting idea in adding that stanza. I will think about it; you might be right. I tried to bring some of that live action contrast, but maybe not enough. estory

I agree with you that Apple VR glasses will never replace the real in person experience. That's what I said in the team meeting at my work. But for people in India who have to commute for two hours every day, ZOOM meetings are a life saving tool. I work part-time and actually enjoy going to office once in a while to see colleagues. But my commute is 20 minutes one way.
Well done.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on my theme. Work from home is here to stay. It has to do with saving time and money on the commute, that's for sure. But this AI thing is going to lead to the companies deciding that what they need is the computer, not you. Thank God I am retiring. estory

Yes. I was going to retire last year but the job is too good to leave. I'm working part-time now and traveling all the time. I don't need this job.

The real experience is more intense. You've got have it at least once to feed your imgination when it isn't possible to be there. However, it is good that seeing it on TV is possible. It takes a lot less time and unpleasant interactions with loud mouths and all that stop and go traffic.

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the theme of my piece. Television has that element of convenience for these types of things, but in the end it is a hollow experience. Lately it is just a downright bad experience. All these channels do now is repeat reruns of syndicated shows over and over, spend nothing on new content, and sell the ad space and pocket the profits. estory

I enjoyed your story very much, and the things that you described exactly what I experienced as a kid when we were listening to the baseball games on the radio for the St. Louis Cardinals. The announcer for the St. Louis Cardinals at that time was harry Carey, and it was always exciting to hear him announce a home run and all the different things that he did today I am not able to watch the game in person because of my vision will not allow me to do it and even watching the games on TV or not very good for me so if I want to get a baseball game, I have to listen to it on the radio and reinstate my childhood memories. Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on my theme here. I will be the first one to admit to the poetry of listening to a ballgame on the radio. My cousin and I used to listen to many night games from Yankee Stadium and there is a poetry to the play by play. The rhythm of a baseball game is poetry. estory

I agree there's a certain electricity to sitting in a stadium and watching the games in real life that you never get with TV or the radio. Life was meant to be experienced not watched. Thank you for sharing this with us.
