What a great tanka, dual tanka at that, Gypsy. The dual pictures carry some sadness in that they are from the military and carry 'death notices'. Your words provide the message in the first tanka of all the love and joy where as the second provides devastation and aloneness. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

Another fine poem, Gypsy----and getting news like that has to be a terrible shock----just glad that for the most part, we don't have much war to necessitate news such as that

I Like your tanka suite- nice picture presentation- story paints a good picture of her swinging in the swing on the porch sadly waiting for her man- syllables a bit confusing- may want to double check them? I see 5/6/6/6/5
And 10/6/6/6 could be wrong- good job - AP

Thank you very much, AP. Tanka is 5 lines so that is why you are confused with the second one. No/ti/fi/er in first line.

Your poem set such a scene. I loved the tone.it was such an emptiness she must have felt. The use of melancholic sky was perfect. Those are words that no one wants to hear. "I regret to inform you ..." so sad. Gretchen

That's so sad. The first stanza shows us the wife waiting for her husband's return. The second stanza reveals that he is not returning and the sunset symbolizes the death that was announced.

Really effective and beautiful writing in this tight form. You pack so much in and move with your economy of expression. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem.

Ouch!!! This poem hurts to read it. Many family members have wait patiently for their loved ones to return, yet they don't. I often wonder if the governments who send these people off to war understand the ramifications. I doubt they do. Thank you for sharing this poem with us.
