Truly exceptional, Debbie. The research and thought that surely went into this shines through; a fitting tribute to a music pioneer and legend.
With the added complexity of working with the song titles, the rhymes felt natural and unforced. The lyrical flow and feel would surely make Buddy proud.
The presentation added impact to the words and the notes were educational, even for someone who followed Buddy's music and life.
I am a fan of Buddy's music. Thanks for reminding me of his greatness. - Jamison

Another great tribute, Debbie. Thanks for the tidbits about John Wayne and Don McLean. Don McLean has a house just a few miles from where I live. He has had his problems in the last few years.

Thank you so much, Paul! I greatly appreciate your review and am now fascinated to know more about Don MacLean. You have to be a strong individual to survive the game they're in. All much appreciated, Debbie

Buddy Holly's story is such a sad story. Songs in his heart but gone far too soon. Well done again Debbie. I've seen the Buddy Holly musical on stage a couple of times over the years, and I never get sick of hearing his songs. Cheers,

Hi Debbie.
You've done it again.
What a fantastic poem to honor one of musics true pioneer and legend. I never knew he was only 23 when his plane crashed. "Imagine" what music may have become if he hadn't passed away.
Now for my bone to pick with you... I'll have American Pie running through my head, humming, singing and whistling all this afternoon. That's not a bad thing! Im not mad!
Again, fantastic post that I thoroughly enjoyed, poem and notes.

Thank you so much, John! I really appreciate your kind stars and thoughtful comments. I agree with you about American Pie - I was actually going to put the video of it at the end, then you would have really been cursing me:)) Thanks again for your time and lovely words, Debbie
-
Never would I curse you! It is a great song. I remember in high school (circa 1972) our social studies broke down the dong for us line by line.
Maybe I?ll spend the afternoon drinking whiskey and rye? haha.

Don't! You'll get me singing along now:))

What a fantastic write. Let me firstly highlight the positives in this post. Firstly, the subject of the poem, Buddy Holly, remains one of my all-time favorite pop stars. Added to this is the tragedy of his death in a plane crash along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper.
You have cleverly included a number of his hit song titles in your poem without losing either rhythm or rhyme. As I said, a very clever and informative post, And most deserving of the six stars. He was my very first favourite singer, later replaced by Mr. Orbison.

Wow, thank you so much for this, Bob! I greatly appreciate your very generous stars and lovely thoughts. I'm afraid I'm getting a bit predictable with these bios (The Everlys as well) but I love delving into people's lives, particularly celebrities. In Buddy's case, his life was so tragically shortened and he only took that flight because he was financially broke (not least to do with his unscrupulous manager) and was obliged to do gruelling tours (which just about finished The Beatles off too). Thank you again and I'm delighted you enjoyed and it triggered some happy memories for you. Take care Debbie

How about one on my favourite performer of all time, Roy Orbison. He had a great voice, wrote most of his own songs and suffered so much tragedy. This is your challenge for the week. Good luck.
-
Oh that's funny because someone else asked for that which would be a whole lot easier than Elton John! I will take a look but even my son is not on my side and accused me of being too "gimmicky" yesterday! So you can see why your comments are so welcome this morning:)

Oh, Debbie, you have done it again, writing about a musical icon. Yes, Buddy Holly was something else, wasn't he? How happy we were in those days all the best, Ulla:)))

Thank you so much, Ulla! I really appreciate your stars and lovely words. Hope I'm not getting too predictable here:) Are you in Spain right now? If so, I hope things are ok weather-wise for you. Perhaps you could move some of the sunshine here in Wales:) Take care Debbie

I live in Spain and have for the past twenty years. It's hot, tomorrow at 40
Degrees. I can send you plenty of sunshine. Ulla;)))

This is a terrific tribute to this legendary Rock & Roller. I was just getting to know him when he had that fatal crash. You have blended his song titles into your verses very well. Rod

Hi Debbie,
This is a well done ode to Buddy Holly intertwining his songs with strong rhyme and smooth meter. My first wedding dance was to "True Love Ways". "American Pie" is still one of my favorite song. If Don McLean is his real name, then I might me related to him because my maiden name is McLean. Both my grandfather and father were named Don McLean.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great day.

Thank you so much Joan for this lovely rating and your thoughtful comments which I greatly appreciate! Buddy's real name was Charles Hoddin Holley. Don McLean, another singer, dedicated American Pie to Holly following his death - So you may well be related to him. You must do some research. Sounds interesting.... Take care Debbie
-
Don't mention it, Debbie.
