I have to say your post was the one with the most positive message. Reading a couple of other entries makes it easy to see why we are so divided. We will never compromise by attacking and treating the other side as enemies. It will always be my way or the highway.

To the author of this great poem, I say, Happy 4th of July! (And I am writing this to you like Alistair Cooke in reverse - this is my Letter to America - from London, where it is now 10.30pm. In New York it's 5.30pm and in California 3.30pm - but it's still Independence Day!)
I have only been on site here for six weeks now, but I already feel I have dozens of old friends I never knew before - such is the hospitality of the American people - our nearest, dearest and greatest allies, for whom we graciously lost the War of Independence, so you can write a poem like this!
I pick out key words, many from The Declaration of Independence, some from the Gettysburg Address:
Freedom, Honor, Service, Family, God bless . . . America.
All, in this reflected Senryu, in red, white and blue - with some in black for emphasis.
You have emphasized the sacrifice of the thousands who paid the ultimate price to maintain democracy and freedom in your country (exactly as the UK) - some families lost many sons in a list of wars from the 1940s thru Korea and into the late 20th century - then the Middle East. The USA and the UK have paid a heavy price to rid the world of tyrants and dictators. But today is your day. Be proud of your country and all the good she stands for. Under God.
And I am proud of all my American friends here. God bless you all.

Thank you, Dolly, for reading this poem and for the very nice review. As far as being political - sometimes we need to be more positive in our criticism, so that it is listened to. Our country has deteriorated very much from what my parents knew. I'm ashamed we're not more united. I could have thrown stones, but I would rather display flowers.
