It is evident that Iris( I've always loved that name) and Jameson love each other. I don't suppose Claire could get hit by a car? Love your work.***************************
I was going to do sixes, but that just seemed wrong! haha**************************

I missed this one, Glad to catch up. It's another winner.
I have to tell you something, though, that as a writer (and a Southerner) caught my attention, and I'm really kind of teasing you, so know I'm not being critical!! When you said Jameson took his trash to the garbage bin, I thought he should've taken hers, too. I know. a nothin-burger. it was just my passing thought. He has such great manners. :)

I'll give Jameson the benefit of the doubt and assume that Iris was still eating. Lol. I would have said the same thing. Gretchen

Aww. And it gets sweeter. Company for the appointment and she's going to leave him money. Excellent developments.

I'm scared about Wednesday's doctor's appointment myself. I wish Iris was being a drama queen, but I know she's not. I like this story. I'm emotionally invested. That's a good author who did that.

He takes his trash to the garbage bin near the light pole, then comes back to sit in his seat again. (space needed after the comma)

Another great chapter, Gretchen! For some reason, I thought Iris had told him what the doctor's appointment was about.
Well, this is going to be a shocker for Jameson. Great story! Best, JohnC

No. Iris has told him about her heart failure but this is the nitty gritty stuff Dr. Chalmers is going to go over. Thanks so much for this great review. Gretchen

Oh dear, this is building up to something for poor Iris and still her concern is always for Jameson. Once again your story reads so fluently with excellent dialogue bringing your characters to life. I worry for Iris and hope her meeting with Dr Chalmers won't be too upsetting. Thanks for sharing this quite poignant chapter, Gretchen. I look forward to the next. Take care, Debbie

If I'm a judge of a character, Jameson is a lot tougher than she gives him credit for, anyone who makes a decision that he made to get on with his life, if there is a bluff by Claire he's certainly calling it. I hope Iris is going to hang around, they need one another, well done Gretchen, blessings Roy

I think Jameson will see her through this. And along the way he will understand what true respect and love is. Thank you for this. Gretchen

That's going to be a big shock for Jameson when he discovers how much time Iris has left. Even though he knows she is terminally ill, all the time they meet for coffee a little part of you tends to put that aside, as if it something happening to someone else or that you misheard. Going to the doctors with Iris will hit him hard. You are writing this story so incredibly well, Gretchen. I can't wait to read the next part. :)) Sandra xx

Thanks so much, Sandra. I'm glad you are enjoying this. The subject matter is pretty heavy. Hope it won't be too dark. Gretchen

I've been in, what will become, Jameson's place, with my first husband. He was only 45, and died 40 years ago. My boys were still too young to be without their dad. So, I know that Jameson will need to be strong, and caring, which he is. I look forward to reading how you write it. I know you'll do it brilliantly. xx

Good. I am so pleased. She need him and he needs her. It will be very hard on Jameson to lose some-one else soon though, if her death is quite imminent. In a way, he is the son that she lost. Each is helping to make life meaningful for the other. Excellent writing, fine and authentic dialogue, good story.

Thanks so much, Wendy. They are two souls who need each other. Not sure who needs who the most, to be honest. I appreciate the nice words. Gretchen
