I liked this post also. I always had someone helping me dealing with cars. Great story! I had a fall after walking Saturday morning. Fortunately, Charlie and Betty LeBanc were eating breakfast and Charlie saw me fall. They came out and helped me get up. I skinned my knees, hurt my hands, and got my face skinned and bruised. I am on the mend, but still a bit sore. I will start walking in the hallways in a few days.

yep, this sounds familiar. The only way to win a new car negotiation is just the way you did it - walk away and never call back. Kudos!

Favorite line: I don't know if I can afford a new car, but I sure the hell can't afford Betty Sue.

Great writing, my friend. Even though it brought back some not so fond car dealership memories, I enjoyed reading it. - Jamison

I like how you started w the history of automobile and glided right into your retirement car up until now! Absolutely hate when people think you are too stupid to figure out the game. Even if I was loving the product and someone tried to pull that on me, I am out of there. No matter how great he looks in that sweater : )
I loved the way you led them on and dropped the bomb!
Cool story!

I was really hoping you would not buy a new car; you did not disappoint me. You outmaneuvered Betty Sue and the Sales Manager. Excellent well-written entertaining story. I enjoyed reading from beginning to end.
You have a six.
Best wishes,
Mary

Hmm, this is well written, but in the end, you didn't buy the car, despite the build-up. Besides, simply sharing what happened at the dealership with us, what was the point? What was the conclusion or resolution to your story? Not complaining, just wondering if I'm missing something.

Notes:

"Yes, we figured you would want {that,"}

-that."

Terry, honey (haha), this was worth every word of the reading! About 25 years ago, because of some financial situations, I had a job selling cars, Toyotas.

I was only getting by, because I didn't have that gene in me to cheat-lie-be dishonest in order to make a sale.

Now a days, when we have to turn in my wife's leased vehicle, I enjoy the challenge. Good credit, money and a stoic demeanor will always prevail.

Great post...
John

Good afternoon,

You have a captivating way of telling a story, making it easy for the reader to follow it. You captured the process of purchasing a car perfectly. It's crazy how fast that initial number can drop once you start pushing back a bit.

Thanks for the share.

Yes, I've been through the runaround at the car dealerships. The only one I've ever met who could possibly beat them at their own game was my father. Wish I learned more from him! Thank you for this unabashed look at what goes on in these dealerships!

Terry, you have such a delightful sense of humor, my friend. I loved it from the first word to the last. And, you're not as old as you make yourself seem...

Of course, as a fellow, living close to Dallas-ite, I can totally relate to the Texas weather.

Glad you didn't get suckered in to the new vehicle!

Take care,
Rhonda

Hi, Rhonda, thank you for reading and for your review. I have emailed annmuma, and Sarah Robin about getting together somewhere with you for lunch, they are all for it. But let's wait a bit till it cools off. Terry.

Definitely need to wait until the weather is better!
Also, I start back to work teaching in Avalon Wednesday. There?s always weekends and holidays!

We are all retired...except for Ann, she is in the process of retiring, but she is the Boss, so she can do as she wishes. But weekends work. I will follow up. Terry.
