You've touched a soft spot, one that most would never believe I have. But our dogs love us more than most humans ever could, and our feelings toward them, are more than attachments. :-) Thanks for sharing.

You're absolutely right. I believe the love and loyalty of our dogs are unmatched by most of the humans in our lives. We could learn much from them. I appreciate your review and kind words. John

Chelesea looks very much like my Harley. They could tears. This contest entry brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

No, I didn't feed her pizza. But she loved pepperoni. (For Harley, it's sausage.)

Thank you, Barbara. It's amazing how theses little ones can worm their way into your heart. From your description of Harley, I'm sure he and Chelsea would have been soul mates. Thank you so much for reviewing my work and introducing me to Harley. John

Did you have to make me cry? This is a beautiful story both for your love of dogs and of course, that little wiener dog, Chelsea.
They stay in your heart and never leave.
My old dog, Skootch would get behind my back while I was driving. Thank goodness she was smaller and not a Great Dane.
Best wishes,
Mary

Thanks for sharing this sad, beautiful memory. it's so amazing the personalities these "pets" display! While my wife was here, we had two dogs, soon to be three, that roamed our neighborhood and came to our door daily for treats. My mobility was just beginning to go at that time. i fell, and will never forget how one of them ran over to me and "hugged" me.

Thank you, Jim. I'm sorry for the loss of your wife. I think you and I are contemporaries. I was born in 1945. I'm beginning to see the sun slowly sink, and I realize what "twilight years" really means. Growing up, most of our pets were dogs and cats that just showed up at our door and adopted us. I've never known a human with more loyalty than those beloved animals. I loved your comment about your dogs. Thank you for your review and God bless. John

And may God also Bless you greatly! As i get older, my health, especially hand trembling, causes me to make errors in typing, so please forgive any that might arise!

No forgiveness needed...we've earned that right.

Oh John, this is such a moving story! I'm blurry eyed with you. These little dogs can have such heart and your mention of her looking at you while being injected was heart-breaking. We tell ourselves all sorts of things about being brave but the reality is that the connection of those eyes is impossible to forget. I've heard other stories of pet bereavements but yours has certainly touched me the most. Virtual six from me and good luck! Debbie

Thank you, Debbie. Your comments are very touching and deeply appreciated. It's almost as it you actually knew our little Chelsea. Your words mean a lot more to me than a sixth star. Blessings to you. John

Hello John :)
I enjoyed reading your short piece about Chelsea.
It is a well written and heart warming read that pulls at the heartstrings. I especially love the affectionate way you call her a little wiener at the end and laughed at your self-justification over sharing your pizza pepperoni with her :)

I'm also a 'big dog' person, never quite seeing the smaller breeds equal to German Shepherds, Labradors and such, although my heart is completely owned by our middle sized Springer Spaniel!

Good luck in the contest.
Best wishes, Debra :)

    HI Debra,
We are two peas in a pod when it comes to big dogs. But it's funny; it doesn't matter the size, they will all wiggle their way into your heart. I having to dog sit my son's bernedoodle right now, which is quite an experience. I loved your comments and appreciate your review and good luck wish.

John, you touched my heart with your story. I'm so sorry for your loss. Regardless of how long she's been gone, the sense of loss never leaves. We had a black and tan Dachshund named Rigby. He wasn't particular about what he ate. If I made salad, he wanted it all, lettuce, carrots, green or red peppers. In the morning I had to give him some cereal in his bowl. Eventually he demanded that it have milk in it, just like mine. He was terribly demanding, but I loved him so much. They have a reputation for being rowdy, but they can be incredibly loving too. Thanks so much for sharing this.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Thanks, Tom. You made me laugh out loud with your description of Rigby. Sounds like he had more human qualities than those of a dog. I guess that's how they become actual members of the family, and why it is so hard to lose them. I really appreciate your review and comments and especially the sixth star. Blessings to you as well.
