Oh, wow! I love this haiku! The artwork you chose, too, is stunning! I am not sure we can ever repair the damage we have done to our planet, our home. *sigh* You wee gem talks about neglect, but it is so much more... But the poem is wonderful.

Thank you for our insightful comments. I would agree with you that Mother Nature has been more than neglected, yes, tortured and abused, but I only had so many syllables to work with.

This is a very accomplished poem using a 6-5-4 pattern and taking up the 'Nature' criterion exactly. (It really couldn't be more exact.)
The overall personification is used creatively - the metaphors precise and well-chosen, to show the barbarous nature of our mismanagement of the planet.
On Boxing Day, 2004, I was on my way through Europe when the massive tsunami broke over Asia, killing almost a quarter of a million people in 14 different countries. Friends from all over the world phoned to see where I was!
The growth of wildfires have killed thousands more - not just in Asia but every continent save Antarctica - and even there the permafrost is depleting and the sea ice melting at an alarming rate.
Your great picture shows Gaia in pain. Your words do her justice.
