You've used your mishap in the garden very well for this 100 word flash fiction story Heather. As you say, for too many their bruises are not 'accidents'.
Good luck in the contest, cheers, valda

I like your story and LOVE your illustration! You've become quite the artist, MJ! And I hope your eyes recover quickly. Maybe the tiny needles of the conifer got in your eyes? You need a quicker eye-closing reflex!

Best wishes in the contest!!

    LOL! Apparently so.
I'm glad you like that illustration. It's one of my best, I think. I don't always get so lucky.

oh, I hate when that happens but they are just doing their job, so many women are abused they have to ask. When my kids were little, if they broke an arm falling from a tree, the doctors and nurses would think I did it. Anyway.... good job, it's a nice flash nonfiction.

In my case, the doctor was not like the doctor in the story, he was just joking.
But something similar happened to me when our daughter was little and I took her to see her paediatrician and the usual one wasn't there.
    Thanks for reading.x

Real life often helps us write our fiction stories. Sorry to hear about your accident with the branch, but it did let you write a thought-provoking and cute story.
Thank you for sharing.

It's amazing how real life can inspire stories. This story is short, succinct, with a bit of humor, and helpful to any woman in an abusive relationship. The illustration you drew of a sad girl, fits the story perfectly. Best wishes in the contest.

I've become a real fan of flash fiction. I guess it's because of the times, everyone wanting quick gratification. I enjoyed your story, and was glad it wasn't abuse. Next weekend, I'm going to post a story about abuse. Hope your ulcered eyes are well soon! Thanks for sharing.

My eyes are a lot better, Ric. Thanks so much.
I have also become a fan of flash fiction I also like reading it. Some of the stories are great, but there are others I don't get (some by the same authors).
In longer fiction there is more 'space' to elaborate, to develop characters, setting...
Looking forward to reading your story.

Well done, Maria! You've managed to tell a great story in exactly 100 words. In the process, you've touched on a subject that is probably all too familiar for doctors and nurses... spousal abuse or domestic violence.
The artwork is special. Hey, you should write a children's book and illustrate it yourself. I'm sure you can write a terrific tale that kids would love. Go for it! You're a talented lady.
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

    You're very kind, Kimbob.
I'm about to have my first grandchild (well, not about to, in December, but time flies) and I'd thought of writing some very short stories for her and turn them into a little book.
Obviously not like this one in subject matter.
    Thanks for your review.

I suspect that is what emergency practices must ask whenever someone comes in with your sort of injury. You had me believing the relationship was bad until your nbotes clarified the event.

Nowadays, in Spain at least, there is news of domestic violence and even women murdered by spouses all the time... that it's not surprising you thought it was really a case of abuse.
Thanks so much for reading, Tom.

Cute story and the drawing works nicely. We women do still have accidents from time to time. It isn't always the men that did it. Of course if it happens too often, there is reason to wonder.

Of course there is. And nowadays it seems it's only too common.
