I love the beautiful imagery of this poem and the easy flowing rhythm (or meter). I'm not a poet, but as a retired musician, know how to create music that follows a specific beat. That's what I love about this poem. The Amphibrach meter and beautiful words of your poem combined, seem musical.

Hello there!! Thank you LJ for your lovely words and comments. This amphibrach meter is one of my favorite and I enjoy writing in that sing song kind of way. I'm delighted you liked it.

Hi Melissa this is such a soothing poem. Your words flow like a cloth of velvet. I absolutely loved it. You probably know I'm not into religious faith at all, but I loved the imagery and feeling of this beautiful poem. All the best of luck. Ulla xx

This is a wonderful poem which I enjoyed very much. Not only was the message beautifully stated, but I loved the amphibrach meter. I've written many poems with this meter, and never knew its name, amphibrach. Indeed, this is one of my favorite meters especially for humorous poems. It is often used by authors such as Dr. Seuss and Bill Peet in their rhyming children's books because it makes a wonderful, flowing meter that children especially enjoy. Thank you for providing me with the term for it.

Hello Jim. Thank you. I love writing verses with this meter too and have several in my Portfolio, but it had been a while since I pulled it out and it was like finding a long lost toy. :). I'm glad you liked it!!

Whilst reading your poem, you showed me your world. It must be glorious by the sea. The sea washes away all our cares. The salt in our hair cleanses our new day. I love the sea, can't get there but thank you for the beautiful day with you. Blessings, Kay xx

Hi Melissa
Faith can have its ups and downs just like life and the waves. Both the lapping of the waves and reflection of faith can calm you in rocky times.
Keep writing and stay healthy,
Congrats on winning the contest.
Have a great evening.

I just arrived home from observing the ocean near my house, so I can relate to your words. The ocean brings out good feelings in us as expressed by your words. "Releasing the tension from my pent up will" is a perfect line and shows how nature is healing and able to relax us. Your poetic form and use of words take the reader to another place.

How cool that you chose the amphibrach meter! I can see you chose extra long words to accomplish this. This is a soothing poem of awakening and it takes faith to face a new day. Best wishes in the contest!

Beautifully rendered, Melissa!
The amphibrach meter is so rhythmical and mirrors the ebb and flow of the sea. I am drawn to the water always...for its healing and meditative powers.
Your last stanza truly resonates with me:
September relaxes in dusky, gold colors
as grasses turn brittle on dunes by the sea,
By faith, I surmise that I also have seasons,
and I must embrace them... for they're part of me.
Thank you for sharing!
Best Wishes!

Hello Diane, I am so very happy that you liked this verse. I love sitting on the Virginia shoreline and feeling the peacefulness that the waves bring. I know you love shorelines too ~ don't you live on the water? Thank you for your lovely review. Hugs!

Good morning, Melissa!
My husband and I live high on a bluff overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay.
We are pretty much surrounded by woods and water = my happy places.
Just came inside from watering the perennial gardens. Soon it will be time to put the gardens to rest. Such a beautiful but bittersweet time of the year...
Hoping all is well with you and yours!
Our daughter just gave birth on 9/11 to our third grandson: Jude Bowers Tedham weighing in at 9lbs 5oz! What a beautiful bundle of love!

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! Grandchildren are such a delight. I hope yours live nearby. Our grandgirl, Rosalie, is 1 1/2 hours away, but we do seem to see a lot of her. I love when she comes here. Thanks for sharing your wonderful world in the woods with me :). M
