I finally got around to reviewing this. I hope your mother is better. This chapter sets the plot with the protagonist talked into a cruise and sets up questions to be answered in further chapters as in 'Who is Cosette?' and 'why is the ship empty of passengers?' Our heroine seems more interested in horses than finding a man. Smile.
Have a nice Thanksgiving, debi.

Now this is really intriguing, I want to know what's happened to the rest of the passengers and why Ava finds herself alone. It did remind me a little bit The Last Passenger by Will Dean, which is published as The Last One in the US. I really enjoyed your chapter and I'm looking forward to reading more.

An excellent chapter, Debi, that shows how Ava is coping since all the animals were set free. I was surprised there was still food in the kitchen and there was electricity and running water. She had a great breakfast and was off to see what the day would bring, but there were concerns about her friend Cozette and where she might be. There was no sign of the horses and goat, either.

Ava asked herself a lot of questions, and it probably helped her focus on what she needed to do. She set out to find the horses, carrots and all. I like how you insert information about horses and how they approach situations. It helps to understand the situation they are in.

You end the chapter very well with Ava's plea. I hope your mother is better. Take care, and I will look forward to your next chapter whenever you post it.

This is an interesting chapter of your book which I have been following on and off. At least she still has the luxury of shelter while she's on the boat. Hope she find the horses safe and well.

You washed the dishes, but didn't make your bed? Maybe prop the cabin door open for your return? (in case you got locked out for some reason)
Sounds idealic.
Are there saddles or bridles on board?
Well written.

    Hi Wayne Fowler,
Did she make the bed? Who knows. We all have chores we dislike. For me, it's the vacuuming. Let me do anything else.
Ava did see some tack near the stalls, but she'll need to check out exactly what later.
I appreciate the encouraging comments about the writing.
    Have a great week.

A super read. I missed a few of the early chapters but was glad to join the story and this is an excellent continuation. It's good to hear her inner thoughts as she processes her situation and considers her next moves in caring for the horses. It seems the ship still has everything working well so it is surprising that others weren't saved along with her (that might have been in the part I missed). Looking forward to more.

So the horses made it and now they will hopefully live together. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Now I know the symptoms to look for should I be dehydrated after physical exertion all the previous day! Great descriptions and getting us into the mind of the narrator!

    Hi Helen,
Dehydration can be dangerous. Several years ago, my father gave me a lecture about staying hydrated. Three days later my mother took him to the emergency room because he collapsed. It was from dehydration. I just smiled when he told me.
Thanks for a fun review. Thank you for the fabulous stars.

Another faultlessly expressed chapter in which the narrator now seems to be experiencing a poignant sense of loneliness and anxiety about her animal charges. She needs to know that they are safe and is quite haunted by possible dangers out there. There is a rather ominous note struck here at the end. So I'm hoping that all will be well. Thanks for sharing a lovely read. Take care Debbie
