Congrats on your win here, Jake! I've no idea how I missed this one. A stirring tribute to your wife as your favourite VET. I love that description of "Captain of my soul." She will, of course, be rightfully proud of your fine dedication to her here. Well done! Debbie

This was so sweet! Your wife sounds like a hero. Historically, most women did not enlist in the army, so I can imagine how difficult it must have been. Also I love how you keep up the theme with words such as " the captain of my soul" and " major of my life" great work.

How can I help but award you that extra star for such a glowing tribute to a deserving woman? I always regretted not being in the Service, as God had other plans for me, but your wife and your words truly put me to shame. You are an excellent writer and a very fortunate husband!

Your poem brought a lump to the throat of this old vet. What a glorious mixture of love and pride in her accomplishments shines forth in this piece. I would have given this six stars had her birth nationality and the information about her having served as a US Army officer in her native land been incorporated. But it's so beautiful as it stands I had to give it five stars. I should also tell you I spent pretty much all of 1963 as an ER Medic in a place called Chun-Chon (now Chun-cheon), at an army base called Camp Page.

I know Camp Page well. I spend several months there in the early 80's in-between assignments hanging out at the base library studying for the FS test and the GRE and eating lots of the Chuncheon Talkalbi. Chuncheon was also the PC training facility and was the first place i lived in when I lived in Korea in 1979. I did my service near by and went to Chuncheon every weekend for Language lessons.. I often think I got in because of that four month self study marathon at Camp Page. Camp Page is long gone replaced by a housing complex.
