What a terrific first Milestone Post! CONGRATULATIONS! I wish you had included a music sample of Richard Tauber, though your words described his talents well! Please keep writing!

Thank you soooo much Jim for your review. A singer not realised by many in today's age. I thought him brilliant.

Please keep up your great writing!

Being attuned to musical melody turns us into harsh critics as we expect perfection when it comes to song, I enjoyed your musings Eric and welcome to Fanstory, love Dolly x

I'm a little surprised here because I know I've reviewed your posts before so am wondering why the first milestone. But congrats anyway. You're obviously very cultured as I've never heard of this tenor. And I wouldn't worry one little bit if you don't understand the words. Why should you if he's singing in his mother's tongue? The beauty of the experience is in the music and the expression he gives to the lyrics would probably give you a hint of an idea (that's his job!) There are some edits so it may be worth putting it through a spellcheck e.g. e(n)joyment; sep(a)rated. But this is an informative and enjoyable verse! Well done, Eric! Debbie

Dear Eric, I have so much to share with you! Austria is my second home as I sang there for more than 30 years, and am still in theory a member of the Salzburg Cathedral Choir (the ,Domchor').
One of my friends in the New English Orchestra was, with me, a Tauber fan - he had seen him perform in the last year of his professional career - and we visited Linz to find his birthplace, and in 1998 placed a red rose on his grave in London (50th anniversary of his death.) So we were just as much lovers of his art as are you.
My advantage is that I learned to speak German in the 1990s and can sing many of his arias (in the baritone keys.) His voice does give the impression of lightness - but he sang some huge roles at Covent Garden, so a 'Lyric Tenor' is a better description.
I congratulate you on your good taste - the sound of Tauber's voice is so musical that it overcomes all language barriers. If he sang in Chinese, it would be just as mesmerizing.
Thank you for this piece. It was like a warm wind, bringing many treasured memories to my ears.

Hi Paul, and a belated thank you for your review. I'm simply getting old. Could one accept that as a reasonable excuse ? I do love some of the old sopranos and tenors, as you can tell.
-
Your piece made me very happy to know at least one other friend knows about Richard Tauber!
-
Thank you so much for that info Paul. As you obviously know, it is a pleasure to find a compatriot who shares one's own interests. Richard Tauber has a unique voice

Richard Tauber had a unique voice (as indeed we have) but what a voice he had ! I find it a pleasure to find a likewise enjoyer of such pleasures. I listen to him still. Thank you Paul.
-
Thank you Eric. a pleasant surprise for me too.

My first posting, 'JIGSAW' was about my best friend and our trip to Linz to find Tauber's birthplace. I also often visit Cafe Bazar in Salzburg, a favorite of his.
-
The mind boggles at the chances I've missed on finding out more about my favorite tenor Paul. I'm afraid my Mrs is not enamoured by classical music at all and so I must enjoy in solitude. I must look up your first posting 'JIGSAW'.
-
Good luck with that, Eric.
Stay in touch. Next time I'll tell you about meeting Tauber's accompanist in a Northamptonshire music shop.

Thanks Paul.

This is a wordy mix that renders an intellectual assessment of one's experience with a particular music. I think, lol. It takes a smart poet to put together so rhythmically well this poem, an even smarter one to use words not so often used.

Thanks again Bryce, for your review. Smart I am not, a man who loves poetry of all kinds, I am. Regards.

I think of all the voices that we hear in music. The tenor voice, and a male is one of the finest of all the sounds. I loved your poem very much and it speaks well of Richard. May you have a great day. Patricia.

Yes I think that term is ...rap! Ha! (Drum roll please)
Well, I have never heard of Mr. Tauber but shall look him up forthwith. Probably because I am not very cultures in the finer things.
Great tribute.

And maybe you are correct in your assumptions Douglas. One does not have to be cultured to enjoy Richard's voice, but, neither am I cultured ! Thanks for your review.
