Life without fire is no life at all so I was automatically rooting for the writer to find her way towards that. By the end, it appears that she is indeed finding her way, hinted at by the faint smile. Very well done.

Your narrator has described this experience very well. It can certainly be traumatic, but hopefully the benefits will reveal themselves and the perseverance to make it through the toughest times will see people through.
