What a meaningful poem. I'm so sorry that you had hardships growing up. I also was not wealthy, but my mom was a solid part of our family. She loved and was very humble. Liked your poem. I could relate how you feel.

I think many people can relate to your well written piece of poetry. As they say, "we can choose our friends but not our family" and this is so true. I have several siblings although 2 brothers sadly committed suicide but the rest of us struggle to get along. You have described this kind of family well. Good luck.

I wish I had six stars left to give you. This poem is something I could have written, if I had enough skill as you! I too have my "chosen family." My birth family has chosen other things besides me. And that's okay. It has left me free to find my true family. I love that this poem rhymes. I love poems that rhyme. It has a nice meter as well, which could easily be made into a song. I wish you a Happy Holiday season with the people whom you love!!!! And who love you too!!!

They say that true love never runs smooth, although this is about family, it's true that most family have a past, this could be a place where the gambit of mixed emotions are birthed, but we learn to forgive, as God forgives, there are conditions on God's forgiveness, we must forgive, as difficult as that is, this is skilfully penned, in articulate aabb rhyming, well done, blessings Roy

This is an honest view point of one's own experience and how the concept of family can mean something different for everyone. The rhyme is consistent throughout though I did notice the change of syllables and meter in some lines though it was only slight.
