Love this 5-7-5 poem on this tree that indeed appears to be standing tall In a saluting pose. Wonder if FanStory has a Nature 5-7-5 poem concept contest that would be fun. Thanks for Sharing your poetic thoughts with this writing. Blessings

That is so interesting and does look like a soldier's arm saluting. I've never heard of this tree. This is an excellent Haiku for the contest, and it is supported by that awesome photo. Thank you for sharing this. Thank you for sharing this.

Lovely Haiku, lovely imagery of the tree and pic you have chosen. Good use of the word gnarly too. I like the anthropomorphism here - although having looked at the tree in this light I can only see a soldier with really big hair!
Well done - great 2nd place.
Best wishes

Thank you so much for your kind review on the gnarly trees. I see the tree in the photograph when I go out for my walk along the one of the streets in the town where I live.

My pleasure! How wonderful to see something with so much character on your daily routine.

Congratulations, Patricia. This is a good example of personification, simile, and hyperbole. Also alliteration of the 's' sound and end rhyme with strong and dawn. With all those poetic devices, no wonder you won.

Love the gnarly trees, they have such character and you've shown their strength in your Haiku. Standing up against nature's winds to keep on growing.liked the 'crooked arm salute' to fish with. Nice one Patricia

I like how you matched the tree branches, with a crooked arm salute of a soldier, Patricia, it gave meaning to the poem, and made for a well thought-out haiku poem...Good Luck in the contest!
Warmly,
Victoria

There you go, this is a good haiku. I see you learned quickly. I enjoyed this gnarly tree. The salute satori is a good one. Although a soldier salutes, a tree saluting is a surprise and the fact that it is crooked enhances the visual experience. Well done. Good luck in the contest.

Hi Patricia,
This is a great mix of artwork and words. The poem seems ekphrastic for it matches so well with the tree in the picture. I like the imaginative extended metaphor.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest.

Wow! that is an unusual tree. I like that you've compared it to a soldier standing strong with a crooked arm salute. Some trauma this tree endured in nature made it grow in this distorted shape. The horrors of war does things to soldiers sometime to warp them as well, but with God help they may still stand strong.
