Thank you, John, for articulating your concern and recommended improvements for reviews well.
However, I would like further clarification on responses to blind reviews. While I try to follow many of your suggestions for a regular review, my go to response to a blind review is a simple 'Thank you' out of concern for the anonymity and fear that saying anything further could inadvertently reveal who the author is. Is that acceptable in those cases or what would you recommend?

I typically keep my response to a blind entry review more business like so as not to give anything away, and he very careful not to sign your name.

Thank you for the clarification, John. I feel like I have a tendency to use certain words and phrases out of habit in regular reviews. I appreciate your help in better understanding the etiquette.

Everyone here should be respectful to each other. We all like to write and to express something to others. Anyone with empathy would treat other writers as they would want to be treated. Gee where have I heard that before? Let's all be non hypocrites, with all the God and Jesus talk, let's be kind. John, think this was a post that is unfortunately needed. Thank you for taking the time to write, and share, it.

Best wishes,

Alex

I have to agree with you. When I have spent ten or fifteen minutes reading a long story, and politely pointed out a few errors, something more than thank you is appreciated. Yay to you for writing this.

I never know what to say in response to reviews. I have been here for a while now, and this is something I wish had been around when I was new. It has affected the way I will respond to reviews, or so I hope. Thanks for sharing! Best wishes to you.

This is good advice, John. There are a few writers out there who never write reviews and never bother to answer any reviews written on their on work. I do get behind in reviewing ane in answering reviews but I always get to them when I can and I've never just say 'Thank you.' I irritates me that many writer never promote their work so even though they are good writers if you aren't one of the first two to read them the work pay 2 cents. I wouldn't post anything if I didn't have enough to have it paying something. I'll review for as little as 20 cents but not 2.

Hi John, I could agree more. I always endeavour to pu a little more than a mere thank you into my responses. But I will also admit that at times I'm very late to answer, because I'm busy living my life as well. But I always try to catch up.
It's really good advice you're giving here, and it has nothing to do with age. It's simple manners is all. All best, Ulla:)))

Good advice John to newbies as well as all FanStorians. It's kind of like "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
I always appreciate a comment from the reviewer. Some reviewers are very helpful with suggestions that make my work better and some respond with an understanding or a connection to something in the work.
Thanks for sharing
Blessings
Janet

Thanks for your point of view. When I review others work, it's purely to get 20c to then promote my work. That's why I just say thank you to all my reviews. Unless that person has given me really helpful suggestions I can use I only say thank you.

Showing respect for a helpful review and showing respect when writing reviews is very good advice here John. Common courtesy cost nothing. I am selective when choosing which posts I read regardless of the payout. We all have our favourites, a fine informative and helpful post John, love Dolly x x x

Very interesting. I can't say I agree with everything. I don't agree with most things mentioned in this entire multi-book.

As someone who normally (unless asked a question or for clarification) respond with: Thank you very much. I do so, because that is how the site (Tom) suggests we respond.

To be clear, I have never intentionally disrespected any reviewer. And I have never heard, saying or writing, Thank you or Thank you very much, was a sign of disrespect. I never imagined anyone taking that as disrespect, and neither has FanStory, as that is exactly how the site tells us to respond (if at all).

I try to follow the site's rules to the letter, because I am one of those guys who have been suspended, and I know that Admin's eyes are on everything I write. (many forum post erased and email warned)

    I never knew about -
Thank you very much. I do so, because that is how the site (Tom) suggests we respond.

Do you know where that is stated? I?d like to read that.

Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it.

Yes, it is stated in the Reply box after you get a review. It is slightly gray shaded. It is also mentioned in the Q&A under: Should I reply to the comments made on my work.
