This is a good story with a significant lesson. Most people think grief should pass in a certain amount of time. Maybe her's would, if she hadn't said the last words to him that she said. The fact that she seems to be telling others what she said is also prolonging the end because people blame her, which is exactly what she is looking for. This should do well in the trauma contest.

This is truly a traumatic story. There are times we DO speak things into existence. Maybe we can't will a person's death like Mrs. Truxton thought she had done, but should all be careful of what we say to others. It's good you were able to help in her time of need. Maybe we can't will a person's death like Mrs. Truxton thought she had done, but should all be careful of what we say to others. It's good you were able to help in her time of need. This sounds like the very definition of trauma. Suffering a loss in such a fashion would be so difficult to recover from. The fact that she arrived out of the blue on a dark and stormy night must have seemed even more confronting.

Thank you, Rhonda. The "second chapter" (and I hope you will consider looking at that story) is that after nearly a year of counseling, I urged her to consider a "celebration of life" on the next death date. She did and she got her life back. This story came in third in the Trauma contest. Thanks for the review.-Bill

What a moving story! We all say and do things we regret but in Mrs. Truxton's case, she had no possibility of making it right except in her own mind. She knew she hadn't meant it regardless of those who formed their opinions without ever walking in her shoes. It happens a lot. Well written!

This is well-written and shows that when you lose a person you love deeply, especially under circumstances like this, where she expressed that he should die, it takes a toll. I'm guessing her guilt kept her from seeking help sooner.

I worked with her for over a year. The next anniversary of his death, I persuaded her to throw a party to celebrate his life. I was no longer needed. This placed third in the Trauma contest. Thanks for the review. -Bill

I used to work as a security guard and as such I was outside a lot, One day a woman came up to me, embraced me and cried for a solid few minutes. When she got herself under control, she thanked me for being there and went on her way. Sometimes just being present is enough.
