The title definitely stands out and made me want to read this. I found myself wondering if the aorta was loved because there had been a problem with the heart previously.

Thank you for reading and enjoying. This poem just came out of nowhere, I think our aorta needed some love. Elaine

Loving your aorta for Valentine's Day, aye? It is American Heart Month so you're in beat. Sending you my very best today as always, dear mermaids, and best for your heart health.

Hi Elaine,
I know the aorta very well. In 2012, when my heart started skipping beats, I told my doctor and he sent me for a few tests. Turned out, it put a stop to my fast jogging on the trail in Grand Bay. I have a narrowed aortic valve. A bit on the sloppy side. Leaking. But the cardiologist told me, on a scale of 0-10, if 10 meant emergency surgery for a mechanical valve or a pig's heart valve, I'm about a 4. That's a mild case, he said. If I continue to "walk" the trail, and eat healthy, get my proper sleep, and don't drink or smoke, I could live to 100 without needing any operation. I don't smoke, and only the rare beer after mowing the lawn (or shoveling snow). Last year, I walked 458 miles. And at my regular check-up last spring, he said I'm still a 4. Still a mild case. He was more concerned about my prostrate reading of my blood test at the time... 4.1 But my family doctor didn't think it was a problem at all. I'm 73, so the high limit isn't 3.9 but more like 4.5 (He'll keep and eye on it. Actually, I go to see him on the 27th of February, so he'll likely send me for blood tests.)
So salad and grapes are good for the old ticker? I rarely eat those foods.
I'll echo your lines in the poem,
"beat fondly,
beat steady,
together as one
we embrace life"

Hugs,
Kimbob

I am happy to read that you are taking care of your self and practicing some healthy habits. Be careful with the shoveling snow, the worst exercise apparently for our bodies. The pectin in grapes is suppose to be good for our hearts in addition to being an anticancer agent. Salads are good because they too are full of vitamins. The pectin in grapes is also found in red wine. An occasional drink of alcohol doesn't hurt, it is the excessive amount that does. Thanks for reading and enjoying. The aorta is an important part of the heart. Elaine

Kudos for being so original. your words capture the emotional and physical importance of this artery. I like the reference to healthy eating. Also the personification at the end.

I wanted to create a different Valentine's Day poem and my over active imagination came up with one. Thanks for reading and enjoying. Elaine

Fun perspective. We are always talking about our metaphorical hearts in February, but not our literal ones. I really think it's a fun aside to take such a different approach to the holiday. Great work!

Silly or not, I loved this original take on a valentine poem! We all should love our bodies, not take them for granted when they function well, and take good care of them!

I love how you made this about a girl named Aorta! She's your lifeblood, and if you take good care of her, she'll keep you alive.

This is super imaginative and perfect for a Valentine's Day poem.

best, JohnC

You really got to the heart of the matter in this poem! Since you paid tribute to that serviceable organ in so great a manner, the only advice I can suggest is to collect in a book, tributes to other of our body's friends, such as the inner ear, the liver, spleen, and one I'm certain no one has paid tribute to, the duodenum.

Love your suggestions! You have given me something to think about. All of our other organs deserve a poem, especially the duodenum! Thanks so much. Elaine

What a lovely and imaginative write. Your physical heart is your friend and it seems you treat her well. I enjoyed reading this in the fast paced vertical form. :)

What a clever idea to honor the aorta, and Valentine's Day is just the right time. Very imaginative. Beat fondly, beat steady. Great wishes for that all-important "engine." Are you sure the aorta like salad and grapes? That doesn't sound like much of a treat! judi
